Hi Ted,
Don't forget it's free software. Often I forget the time and effort
that Hugh must have put into this.

Have you tried posting on forum.inguzaudio.com? Maybe someone else
there can help? I agree Hugh seems to be a busy guy.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: InguzEQ / InguzDSP room correction

2007-08-31 Thread darrenyeats

Hugh,
I heard about someone using an SPL meter from RS as a microphone for
recording the sweep.

I am interested in this for two reasons, both important:
1. I have one!
2. I believe it is calibrated, and from what I've read of the Behringer
ecm8000 that mic can't be used reliably without being calibrated.

So, can I use the SPL meter effectively? One assumption I am making is
that the calibration would modify the line out (but if the line out
gives a raw signal I am out of luck).

If anyone knows about this please chip in.

PS: FYI, I know the ecm8000 has a calibration file supplied with the DRC

significantly.

Phil,
Thanks for your comment, I think I understand your point. I am trying

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: InguzEQ / InguzDSP room correction

2007-08-29 Thread darrenyeats

Ok, I've answered my own question (with a bit of sleep!).

System.Xml is a microsoft thing.

I used the shotgun approach and:

apt-get install libmono-microsoft-build2.0-cil libmono-microsoft7.0-cil
libmono-microsoft8.0-cil

Did the trick :-)

Now I get

# /usr/sbin/InguzDSP
Usage: InguzDSP -id clientID [-d outputbitdepth] [-r samplerate] [-wav]
[-be]

As I should per the instructions.

On to the next issue (which I see there is another thread for)...

Mmmm. My file server has an Intel Celeron D processor (64 bit).

Are you sure it was the number of bits that was the problem, not
something to do with the installation process?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: InguzEQ / InguzDSP room correction

2007-08-29 Thread darrenyeats

Hugh,
I don't have a mic, but I have an SPL meter. Although the meter is
cheap, I believe it has been calibrated.

I am able to plot the FR curve with test tones and a spreadsheet. I've
got data with and without equaliser (obviously, I'm looking for a flat
response with equaliser). By plotting the difference in db, I can see
the actual effect of the equaliser. I will post graphs a bit later...

At the moment I'm using the 9 band equaliser, and according to my
measurements its effect follows nice diagonals between the 9 points.
Good work :-)

Except, one fly in the ointment is the bass area. The effect of the
equaliser seems to be much less at lower frequencies. I have some
pretty big troughs and peaks in a narrow band of frequencies in the
bass, and the equaliser is not modifying the signal as dramatically as
the equaliser settings are asking it to. (The real effect of the
equaliser settings at higher frequencies seems to be much greater and
certainly nearer to the settings.)

So my questions are:
1. Is it possible to have a *setting* of more than +/- 12db for the
equaliser, or is there a technical reason why the effect of the
equaliser diminishes at low / narrow frequencies that makes this
pointless?

2a. Would a room correction filter display the same type of behaviour
as above?

2b. If not, do I need to do a frequency sweep with a mic, ADC
etc? Or, is it possible to artificially create a WAV file from my
existing measurements?

Many thanks, Darren

2007-08-28 Thread darrenyeats

Apologies to Hugh - I've emailed him direct with this - but it's
occurred to me someone else might have an answer so I'm posting it here
now!

I am trying to install Inguz on a debian etch box.

I have followed all the instructions until

Test the install (as root) by

* /usr/sbin/InguzDSP
o You should see: Usage: InguzDSP -id clientID […etc…]
*

At this point I got an error about mscorlib, which I fixed by 'apt-get
install libmono-corlib2.0-cil'.

However, now when I run /usr/sbin/InguzDSP I get

asus:/usr/sbin# /usr/sbin/InguzDSP
/usr/sbin/InguzDSP: line 2: 5337 Aborted mono
/usr/sbin/InguzDSP.exe $* 2/usr/share/InguzEQ/error
asus:/usr/sbin#

And in /usr/share/InguzEQ/error it says

** (/usr/sbin/InguzDSP.exe:5275): WARNING **: The following assembly
referenced from /usr/sbin/InguzDSP.exe could not be loaded:
