I just tried playing a few of the Capital stations and playback has
stopped a few times, sometimes continuing after a short time and other
times not restarting.

duplicate tracks in my library that happened to be tracks that had been
played on the group player when the group player was still the selected
player in LMS. There is no obvious reason why it happened. It would be
interesting if you found the same but so far it seems to be only me.
Uninstalling the plugin fixed the issue.

I stopped the Squeezelite service and restarted Squeezelite with

Code:

sudo /usr/bin/squeezelite-armv6hf -o hw:CARD=E30,DEV=0 -V "E30 "

and that works. If I can get it working from the settings file I'll have

The order is only correct if all the track numbers are double digit
(assuming less than 100 tracks). I have many numbered 1, 2..10, 11
and then tracks 10 and 11 appear before 1 in Music Folder mode. [emoji3]

amixer -c 1 set "E30 " 110
works but it sets alsamixer to 110 out of 127 and doesn't directly
control the E30 preamp attenuation. Is changing volume in alsamixer
theoretically better or worse than in LMS?

The options are listed within quote marks so adding more quote marks
doesn't work. I have
"-D 0:u32be -V E30 " if I remember correctly.
I found this which sounds like the same issue

On pCP the volume control name was "E30 " with a space after E30. Maybe
that is an issue.

Squeezelite is restarted after changing options so the device shouldn't
be open. I noticed that the command line used is

Code:

/usr/local/bin/squeezelite -n "piCorePlayer" -o hw:CARD=E30,DEV=0 -a
80:4::1: -D 0:u32be -v -V "E30"

The inverted commas around E30 look suspect to me. I'll try adding -V
E30 to another squeezelite install on Raspbian.

I think this should be possible but I am not sure how. I have a Topping
E30 which shows up as
Card 0: 'E30' - Control: 'E30 '
if I click "more" next to the -V option for Squeezelite. If I enter that
in the box I can't control the E30 volume in pre amp mode.
Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?

I am choosing a snd-aloop loopback hw:3,0,0 as the output device for
Squeezelite. I selected it in the Squeezelite settings file to
temporarily replace my Topping E30. I noticed in piCorePlayer the bit
depth is not normally specified so does that mean the output bit depth
is automatically the same as the original file?
Is volume of a 16 bit file performed at 24 bit like hardware
Squeezeboxes?

This is the command I used to save it
ffmpeg -f alsa -acodec pcm_s32le -channels 2 -sample_rate 44100 -i
hw:3,1,0 fromFLAC.wav
so I specified a sample rate but no bit depth so from your reply it
would default to 16 bit. I originally wanted 16 bit so I could compare
my original 16 bit FLAC file to Squeezelite output directly and show it
was bit perfect. Now I am comparing different volume levels I thought I
might get better results saving the output at 24 bits.
Deltawave correlates the two waveforms correcting for amplitude and the
16 bit waveform looks very blocky at 10% volume [emoji1787]

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezelite output bit depth

2022-12-15 Thread slartibartfast

This might be a waste of time but I thought I would use Deltawave
software to compare the Squeezelite output waveforms at a series of
volume levels from 100% to 10%.
I know volume in the Squeezebox universe is done at 24 bits but where is
the output converted back to 16 bits? If I save the output of
Squeezelite using FFMPEG (as described in another recent Deltawave
thread) I get a 16 bit file so presumably this is the information the
DAC receives.
I have read that volumes down to 40% have no audible effect in theory
(for 16 bit files) so this is my misguided attempt to quantify it
