Interesting - I didn't realise that. I guess the Squeezebox touch is the replacement. I like the controller/player setup but wish there was a player that had a better output for hi-fi other than the Transporter which is just too expensive. I just bought a duet, partly on the advertised (by the seller) fact that the controller could be used with headphones. I was dismayed to find it didn't work and read all the forum threads with a growing realisation that this has never worked properly. On the point of sending the thing back, I came across your app - fantastic job, works a treat. It's just a shame that 2.5 years on the bug looks no closer to being fixed. Found it. I had to reboot the SBC. Wow, I am now listening to my SBC on my headphone. Great Thanks for this app. I can imagine though why Logitech does not fully support this feature. I installed the app, selected headphone and selected the beta "audio play". The beeps of the SBC are in my headphone. So far so good. But as soon as I try to play my music or internet radio, the SBC keeps telling me "problem connecting". Clearly I still miss a step. Any ideas? You need to activate the SBC as a player. Look under option->advanced->Beta-something. Enable that and the reboot the SBC. After that it should turn up as a normal player. I've been able to install the plugin ok, and can switch between headphone and speaker. However, I am only able to hear the controller's clicking noises through the headphones, but no music. I understand others have selected the controller as the player, but I don't seem to have that as an option. When I go to Choose Player, I only see the 3 players I have installed on my network and not the controller. I am using the most current software version 7.4.1 r7915 and don't have any other pluggins installed yet. As some might have noticed, with the 7.4.0-firmware audio-stuttering really spoils listening to music on the controller. I updated my Headphone-Pluging to ease the pain A LOT :) If you reinstall it (version 0.2) you will find a third option 'Improve Audio Playback'. On my controller now I only have very rare stutters (once every second song or so) What is happening behind the scenes ? Well - the plugins finds the process responsible for audio-playback and just increases its priority. UI effects like scrolling text etc. thus can't interfere with playback that much. Please note that I don't know what other sideeffects this could have, if unsure just restart your controller to revert to the original state. Testing about two hours now - couldn't notice anything bad. Thanks to bhaagensen for giving me the idea (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=68815) As a sidenote: logitech improved the playback with 7.4.1 which you can download as a beta (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.4). The effect is roughly the same - some stutters left as well but in very good shape to enjoy music. Actually here is not the right place for your question. Anyway: under settings->advanced you will find an option to install a new firmware. If the Server you are connected to is 7.3.3 you should be presented a 6038 firmware. If this doesn't help please start a new thread. Maybe you should wait a day as I think for the audio stuttering a fix was commited yesterday for 7.4.1. I installed 7.4 this morning, and for all the reasons mentioned in this thread (headphone issues, and I don't like the graphics ), I want to switch back to 7.3.3. I re-installed this on my PC, and expected that the controller would switch its firmware back to the previous version (I can't remember the number). Alas, the controller did not switch back. It continues to run 7790. I still have the new graphics, and the headphones stutter. Can someone tell me how I can switch back to the previous firmware, and what the number was? I am not very computer savvy. Okay. That is weird. I must admit that I haven't tried to listen to radio on the SBC so I did a quick test and it worked without any problems. But that is for another thread. The Headphone switcher can't help you there. That's exactly my problem. My Internet radio will NOT play, when I am using my ReadyNas as musicsource:(, therefore I have to connect to squeezenetwork. I have had that option before(in 7.1), but now I don't have the option, to choose Squeezenetwork when controller is selected as player. So my question/suggestion is, assuming there is a way to enable/disable the sounds, to turn off these sounds when "headphone" is selected, and turn back on when "internal speaker" is select? I personally like the audio feedback in "normal" controller usage, but find it very annoying when using the controller as a player. I just fixed all issues under 7.4 FW. Now all popups turn up in the new UI-style and I really like it :) 7.3 style of course unaffected, applet automatically detects firmware version. Also this night a 7.4 firmware-bug was solved (hey this was fast!), so the applet will run out of the box now - no more extra tweaking needed. For anyone interested in running under 7.4:
There is a currently a bug in FW 7330, which prevents the applet from
running (https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=13776).
As long as this isn't fixed, follow these steps:
- upload applet as usual
- download /usr/share/jive/jive/utils/log.lua
- find a line starting with 'local log' in this file
- insert a '=' so that it looks like 'local log =
splog:logger("squeezeplay")'
- enable menu 'extras' under 'settings->main menu'
Currently the popups 'Turning Headphones On' etc. don't appear like in
7.3.3 (they changed the UI) but its working nevertheless.

Great, thanks. I will definately install this when I find the time for it. I already voted for the bug. Actually this was the bug that made me create a bugzilla-account. I made change to the controller described elsewhere in the forums, but to be able to switch back to the speaker for the system-sounds is great. Great work on the applet! The "automatic" headphone switching worked for me once or twice, but usually didn't. I voted for the bug quite some time ago. At one point I modified the settings to force the output to the headphone, but I like having the audio feedback on the speaker, so I reversed the change. Your applet is a nice solution. Hopefully you can figure out how to get it to work under V7.4 by the time I'm ready to switch version! Thanks! Fed up with bug 10074 not beeing fixed (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=10073) I decided to write a small applet, which would make me able to switch headphones manually via a menu: [image: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/uploads/1/1f/Headphone-switch.jpg] Please note: - this applet is working with a 7.3 firmware, couldn't get it to run under 7.4. - this applet will install a new menu-item 'headphone switch' on the main menu, which leads to the submenu you can see in the screenshot - you have to install the applet manually (!) as described in the wiki (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezePlay_Applets). In my zip you wont find an embedded zip as described in the wiki, just upload the content (one folder with 2 files). If anyone wants to help to make this step easier, feel free to contact me. - you can download the applet from that wiki-page as well (just scroll down). Hope that you will have more fun with this applet. By the way: If you face the issue, that headphones aren't switching automatically, before you use this applet, PLEASE take the time, create a bugzilla account and vote for the bug !
