Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Listening to Radio on SoftSqueeze - WMA Error

2008-09-30 Thread MikeekiM

OK... So with no replies, I am guessing that one of a few things is
happening:

1. this is a known issue that people are tired of hearing about...
2. no one is having this problem
3. there is an obvious answer
4. there is no answer

There are probably more reasons...

Bottom line, I want to listen to my local radio stations in RadioIO,
and am bumping into this WMA error...and have searched high and low and
cannot find an answer...

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

That said, here is my question:

How do I listen to WMA radio streams in softsqueeze on a normal Vista
32 set up? Everytime I try, I get the following error WMA Convert
 Error - Check File Types.

Softsqueeze cannot decode wma natively like the hardware players.

You need to download the AlienBBC Plugin which has the capability to
decode wma and other formats using mplayer and/or lame from here:
http://www.x2systems.com/AlienBBC/

Take care to download the AlienBBC appropriate to your squeezecenter
server version.

Fantastic...thanks... So I did see AlienBBC in my search, but it
sounded like it was just for decoding BBC content... I know, I
know...wma is wma is wma...so what's the deal...

But just for certain, will this AlienBBC plugin decode all my wma
stations?

All other things being equal - yes

Thanks... This worked great...

Couple of questions that was not on their FAQ:

- How do I know what version I am on (for future reference)
- How do I uninstall if necessary (I can't see anything in the program
list in control panel)

It is strange that you needed AlienBBC because normally SC on Windows
have all the application (wmadec) already setup to handle WMA for
Softsqueeze/SB1.

Well, AlienBBC worked wonders for me...I was getting the WMA convert
error, and now I am not...

Strange...
