With the 'automatically start at login' option, SlimServer starts
automatically when a user is logged into the XP box. 
You would need someone logged in for iTunes to run anyway so I can't
imagine it being a problem.

Thanks. I thought the option was called automatically run and login so
i didn't get it.  automatically start at login makes sense.

Now i have what might be a dumb question:  I went to get the 6.5.1
version at the URL you posted and all i see is a .DEB file.  What is
that?  I can't figure out how to open it or install it.

The releases at that link get rebuilt every night, so sometimes when you
visit there won't be a full set available.

it's great news that the lastest version of slimserver works nicer
with itunesupdate -- where can we get 6.5.1?  the version available
from the slimdevices website is still 6.5.0.

Also, I just upgraded to iTunes 7.0.1.8 and iTunesupdate 1.9.2 with
slimserver 6.50 on Windows XPpro and i'm having some strange problems.
I'd appreciate any help.

when i play a playlist in Slimserver, at the end of the song two things
happen:

-- iTunes does NOT start up as it should.  Sometimes it throws an error
message
-- Slimserver repeats the song that it was playinginstead of advancing
to the next song in the playlist.

If it start iTunes manually both problems go away.

any thoughts?

I've also noticed that sometimes iTunes doesn't respond properly to the
plugin, especially on start-up. I find that changing the playlist shown
in iTunes usually gets it working again. 

Definitely less reliable than iTunes 5  6!

I have no problems with it! 
But I think people have reported that after installation it may change
your 'start automatically' settings - because of the new startup
options maybe?
