Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Anyone running SlimRio Still?

2021-04-01 Thread ddill

I know that these posts are pretty old, but I have several rio receivers
and am currently setting up a raspberry pi with ubuntu server to feed
them. If anyone needs assistance with setup, let me know.

Looks like they may be available here?

I think I have a copy archived on a hard drive somewhere but will take a
lot of searching if this doesn't work...

Probably a long shot after all these years but does anyone have the
necessary files to set up a SlimRio? The links I've found are all dead.
Many thanks
Jeremy

So let me chime in to say I still run 4 rio receivers too (along with a
Touch and a squeezebox2). I use them in non-critical locations such as
garage, workshop and terrace.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Anyone running SlimRio Still?

2012-08-22 Thread sle118

Just chiming in to say that I still have 3 rio along side my duets. I
have to keep the bit rate low, but 128kbps seems to be stable enough and
still provide decent quality for the garage and other secondary rooms in
the house.

Trying to synchronize with the duets is just not an option, as the synch
mechanism tends to skip some beats on my duets.

Also, they don't keep a steady connection to the server like the duets
do; it's often a pain to get them to connect with power off/on cycles.

Finally, I have to say that they are very sensitive to the network cable
type you use as well as to what kind of switch you plug them in. I have
a dedicated, older, 10/100 switch that I connect to my gigabit switch.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Anyone running SlimRio Still?

2010-06-03 Thread andynormancx

SBS still supports SliMP3. There is at least one other person around
here still running SlimRio. There are a few more still running it over
at the empeg/Rio bbs
http://empegbbs.com/ubbthreads.php/forums/17/1/General

I wouldn't bother personally, SlimRio was always a pain in the arse to
get working and even then it only worked well with the hack that
dropped the sample rate to 22khz, which meant it didn't sound very good
even when it worked.

I gave most of my Rios some time ago to a friend who still persists
with them and replaced them with Squeezeboxes.

My empegs are still going strong though.

Yes, it will. Yes, all of them. Yes, SoftSqueeze as well. What ?
I SAID ALL OF THEM !

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Anyone running SlimRio Still?

2010-06-03 Thread mhavoc

Thanks for the feedback... I think that Im starting to see Andy's
point... the display say server not found, but navigating around,
everything seems to work fine. I haven't thrown any speakers on it yet
(in the process of moving houses) to see how it plays but seems like it
certainly works in concept.

We'll see how it goes with it. I figured it would be nice to give to my
5 year old daughter for her room since she can probably deal with 22Khz
okay for now. I certainly love my various squeezeboxes that I already
have but as Dan said, the Rio is a nice package, buttons, display,
amp... all in a nice little box.

thanks again for the opinions and info...

jess
