That's a five and a half year old version of perl5, with quite a few locally
applied patches, which makes me really nervous to begin with.

Also, I can't tell what for version of what distribution you're reporting a
failure.  Please let us know that, and ew'd like to see the result of the tests
run verbosely:  make test TEST_VERBOSE=1
