It works fine using py2.5 on this system, it worked fine on py2.6 before py2.6 was removed, and it works fine for me and many others on py2.7 on other systems (windows and various linux). The same situation holds for both the port (py-cherrypy) and CherryPy installed via easy_install. For testing here I'm using one of the tutorial files included with cherrypy, but the same situation happens with all of my cherrypy applications. It's not necessary to patch Makefile.bsd, you can overwrite LIBRARIES with MAKE_FLAGS as well. Any help fixing the issue would be welcome. Ian Lance Taylor wrote a nice blog discussing the flag at http://www.airs.com/blog/archives/120. I believe the short of it is taming the optimizer (for example, removing a check for integer wrap). Whether its needed or not should depend on the code emitted by chicken and how it might be optimized by GCC. Jeff

Is that 'blindly use -Wxxx' or write sloppy code? Linus Torvalds seems to fall into the later [1]. For example, he proclaimed 'GCC is crap' because GCC warned of the following (the expression 0 was always false): unsigned int x = ... if (x 0) Its kind of funny how the kernel still suffers defects that tools like GCC will [sometimes] catch. Jeffrey Walton: Two OpenBSD architectures still use GCC 3 and they suffer lots of unnecessary grief because people blindly use -Wxxx and -fxxx compiler options that are only supported by GCC 4. Is that 'blindly use -Wxxx' Yes. For instance, since the last update and until earlier today, devel/glib2 would fail to build on the GCC 3 archs: cc1: error: unrecognized option `-Wstrict-aliasing=2' That's a stupid reason for a port to break. -- Christian naddy Weisgerber na...@mips.inka.de
