firefox35 + jre-1.6 plugin with IBM ASM

2011-11-25 Thread LEVAI Daniel
Hi!

I just wanted to write this for the archives.
Altough the only working solution right now on OpenBSD for using IBM's
old ASM Remote Control is compiling jre-1.6 and using its plugin with
firefox35, it is only working for me after compiling jdk-1.6 with the
eclipse java compiler, then after that jdk has been installed, recompile
jre-1.6 with FLAVOR=native_bootstrap. The version compiled with eclipse
is crashing when trying to use the Remote Control.

[Patch]: scons calls m4 with -E

Hi,

While using scons to build something I ran into the problem, that
m4 was called with -E and exits due the OpenBSD m4 has no -E option.

I propose following patch:

Great, thanks - your diff is created correctly (I use patch -E when
applying it, which removes the 0-byte files). I'll take a look at this

Updated to 0.6.3 in openbsd-wip. If I don't hear back from any node users
I am just going to commit it in a day or two.

Forgot to mention I tested on i386 and amd64 with no issue.

Should boost be enabled/used? No idea.
This builds and tests as well as the previous version.
I haven't tested it yet with any ports that require it. Volunteers welcome!
This is at least a first step to getting a new and maybe even nicer swig port.

Does this really not work with --without-boost?

Freeswitch

2011-11-25 Thread Ted Bullock
Hi Folks,

So our company recently merged with a small telecom which has been
using pre-packaged versions of trixbox running on top of centos to
operate for the last while.

However I am not happy with the reliability they have seen, as well
the security situation is rather poor.

Anyway, I spent my afternoon banging my head against freeswitch's
build system making it build on OpenBSD 5.0 and I have produced some
working binaries. That said, the upstream installation process sucks,
and looking in seems really dumb (they have made a shwack of shallow
forks of most of their dependencies and pulled them all into their
tree).

I don't really have any visibility on how deep some of those forks go,
but they are including really disparate stuff like sqlite and libtiff.

Anyway, I'm willing to contribute paid developer time towards building
a freeswitch port and would be more than a little interested in what
else has been done towards this. Not much has appeared on marc.info
so I thought I'd ask.

Benjamin,

If you are willing to test patches, I will be willing to update R to

Absolutely. I just realized that the version in ports is to old to use
ggplot2 and plyr. So I would really like to help to get a new version
in.

Ok, there's a version of R in www.github.com/jasperla/openbsd-wip/

I will place the updated version of R in the same place. Give me a few
days to collect everything together.

thanks for the testing offers! they are hard to come by :-)

I have been testing R as it is, and I have not been able to
get it to function without patching main.c as follows. If it
is not patched, and the conditional compilation below is
triggered, then R (invariably??) generates a warning message
*failed to set* *alternate signal stack*
upon the failure of a call to sigaltstack(), continues on its
merry way despite this ghastly error, and all manner of data
corruption ensues.

However, I do not understand the theory of alternate signal
stacks or the implications of making all the threads use the
same stack, and I am rather intimidated by the author's
comment NB: this really isn't safe... in code that nobody
has dared touch in years.

Something is very wrong here, and I would much appreciate
if anybody has any ideas how to not only link it correctly
with -pthread, but to get it to function correctly, too.

Re: Regarding fortran compiler on gcc4 acrhes (octave issues)

2011-11-25 Thread j

and also using gnuplot from octave failed completely

I have a port that builds Octave 3.2.4 on OpenBSD 4.9, and runs gnuplot,
or at least sombrero works...

Email me if you want a copy.

It features

MODGCC4_LANGS += c++ fortran
...
CONFIGURE_ARGS= ${CONFIGURE_SHARED} \
--with-fftw \
--without-blas --without-lapack \
--without-hdf5

that is, it builds with gfortan and uses the internal copies of blas and
lapack, not the packages. (The task of validating blas and lapack with
gfortran for all uses in ports is beyond my abilities. )

I also patched the regressions to avoid specific test cases with infinite
loops caused by bugs in precision routines as mentioned in the upstream
bug report. The bug doesn't seem to affect most of the test cases.

The key advantage is that octave 3.2.x is vastly quicker than anything
earlier. 10x easily on some array stuff (FDTD calculations).
