@symlink clarification (man pkg_create)

2012-01-03 Thread Jiri B
Hello,

I'm confused how @symlink should work,...

@symlink name
Added after a file entry by pkg_create to record that the entry
is actually a symbolic link.

I haven't found any usage of this in any PLIST.

My goal:
- create a sample dir in /var/foo
- create a symlink in /etc/foo - /var/foo

I know it's possible to do it with 'ln -s' but I'm just
curious how this @symlink is supposed to work.

Thank you.

Good luck finding any. pkg_create will reject @symlink in PLISTs.
(as well as @size and @link)

 My goal:
 - create a sample dir in /var/foo
 - create a symlink in /etc/foo - /var/foo

 I know it's possible to do it with 'ln -s' but I'm just

It's an internal annotation: packing-lists, as they exist in packages
and in /var/db/pkg, have to record *everything* that constitutes a package,
so that they can be checked very thoroughly.

Also, the tar USTAR format has several limitations, one of these being
that paths over 255 chars cannot be recorded. In such a case, the archive
names are changed to LongName#x and LongLink#x, and the info in the
annotated packing-list is used to reconstitute the actual name we want.
(see OpenBSD/ArcCheck.pm for the gory details).

Note that the pkg_create(1) manpage says things in a careful way:

 @symlink name
 Added after a file entry by pkg_create to record that the entry
 is actually a symbolic link.

There is no indication of something else being feasible. This IS an automatic
annotation and you can't fiddle with it.

and also, if PLISTs from ports tree don't use @symlink and binary
packages do use @symlink then I would go for ln -s and then see will
pkg_create change it to @symlink.

Right. Also one needs to look to see if the daemons support reloading
with HUP - these do not.

 I'm still thinking how to make it run by default and not to
 change system by default (patching promises?).

I think the approach that things do not configure and start
auto-magically is better. We make the user setup postgresql or mysql
data directories, so I'd follow the same path here.

 I also opened report to tune path to *BSD's crontabs directory
 https://cfengine.com/bugtracker/view.php?id=900

Thanks - I also have one for fixing a segfault.

Here's the diff with the rc scripts altered for rc_noreload and a note
about bumping openfiles in login.conf.

I've gotten positive feedback from a few - more are welcome.

Thanks,
Okan

kerTeX: get_mk_install

2012-01-03 Thread tlaronde
Since my explanations in the README/LISEZ.MOI are probably less clear
than a simple script, I have written it.

get_mk_install.sh (for an Unix like OS; call it like this:

$ sh get_mk_install.sh

) will do what is explained in length in the doc: retrieve a bundle,
unpack, compiles (in SAVE_SPACE mode), install and generates the dumps
and fonts.

It's online:

http://www.kergis.com/en/kertex.html (english)

http://www.kergis.com/kertex.html (français)

And please, if you try, do report success or failure!

TIA.

ruby/1.8 and jruby DoS fixes

2012-01-03 Thread Jeremy Evans
Over the holidays there were new releases of ruby 1.8, jruby, and rack
to fix a DoS vulnerability (CERT-2011-003). The jruby and rack releases
only include a single patch for the DoS, the ruby 1.8 release also
includes a handful of small OpenSSL, BigDecimal, and mkconfig fixes.

Tested on i386 and amd64. I'll be committing tomorrow unless I hear
about problems.

Thanks,
Jeremy
