Fwd: removing libutil.so.15.1 and libX11.so.17.1 per sysclean(8) breaks xmonad(1)
-- Forwarded message - From: Ashlen Date: Fri, Apr 1, 2022 at 1:37 PM Subject: removing libutil.so.15.1 and libX11.so.17.1 per sysclean(8) breaks xmonad(1) To: Hi, I'm on this snapshot with updated packages: $ sysctl -n kern.version OpenBSD 7.1 (GENERIC.MP) #454: Thu Mar 31 09:28:09 MDT 2022 dera...@amd64.openbsd.org:/usr/src/sys/arch/amd64/compile/GENERIC.MP sysclean(8) from ports recommends to delete /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.17.1 and /usr/lib/libutil.so.15.1 but if these files are removed, xmonad(1) will fail to start and it quits back to xenodm(1) login. These are the relevant messages in ~/.xsession-errors (I've seen both cause this). XMonad is recompiling and replacing itself with another XMonad process because the current process is called "xmonad" but the compiled configuration should be called "xmonad-x86_64-openbsd" XMonad will use build script at "/home/ashlen/.config/xmonad/build" to recompile. XMonad recompiling because a custom build script is being used. [2022-04-01|12:07:54]: /home/ashlen/.cache/xmonad/xmonad-x86_64-openbsd is newer than xmonad.hs. XMonad recompilation process exited with success! ld.so: xmonad-x86_64-openbsd: can't load library 'libX11.so.17.1' Killed I should mention that sysclean -p does not report that xmonad(1) needs these files, and that sysclean was used without flags here. If this should be in ports@ feel free to forward this there, wasn't too sure where to send this. rsync zlib (was: Re: No more imports, prepare for 7.1)
Christian Weisgerber: > * There was that recent zlib vulnerability. > How about rsync? There is a single call to deflateInit*() in rsync, found in token.c: if (deflateInit2(_strm, compression_level, Z_DEFLATED, -15, 8, Z_DEFAULT_STRATEGY) != Z_OK) { The originally reported Z_FIXED vulnerability doesn't affect this. Eric Biggers' reproducer for deflateInit2(, 7, Z_DEFLATED, 15, 1, Z_DEFAULT_STRATEGY); is also not applicable if you read his report: https://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2022/03/28/1 So it looks like the way rsync uses its modified private copy of zlib is safe. -- Christian "naddy" Weisgerber na...@mips.inka.de

UPDATE mail/s-nail
Hello ports@, hello Stuart. This updates to v14.9.24, with a few fixes, including an IMAP improvement so this MUA should work with Microsoft IMAP servers (and all servers which treat "untagged" responses seriously). (In general what seemed "buggy" to "you, user" should now feel right.) This is now really and irrefutable the last (bugfix) update of the v14.9.X branch. Re: Trouble updating Xscreensaver to 6.03
Diff below seems to work for me as well as 5.45 does; that is to say, it's working properly on my laptop if I only display on the internal LCD, fails completely if I only display on the external display, and if I have both displays active with the desktop extended to the external display it locks ok, but only the internal LCD runs the blanker. It would be helpful if others can confirm that this doesn't break anything for them. gid auth isn't working for me, so this is still setuid root, but at least it's just the auth module in a separate process now. [update] sqlite 3.38.2
hi, lagging a bit behind upstream: https://www.sqlite.org/releaselog/3_37_2.html https://www.sqlite.org/releaselog/3_38_2.html there's rarely fallout from sqlite updates, but a bulk would confirm at least everything builds if we want that for 7.1. Re: Trouble updating Xscreensaver to 6.03

As far as I know; I am not > doing that. xscreensaver is installed setuid root so that it can check passwords (it does not handle the preferred BSD Authentication method). This is why it is detecting that you run it as root. xscreensaver 6.0 split off authentication into a separate process so that the part running the animations doesn't need to run with the privileges needed to check passwords (it doesn't support BSD Authentication, the preferred method on OpenBSD, instead it does lookups by opening the password database files itself). Some port changes are needed to handle this change. Not sure if it will work but you can try moving the @mode 4755/@mode that are currently wrapping the PLIST entry for bin/xscreensaver to libexec/xscreensaver/xscreensaver-auth instead. Be prepared to switch to another (non-X) terminal or ssh in to kill the process if it doesn't work. If that change does work then also try replacing @mode 4755 with "@group _shadow" / "@mode 2755" and adding "@group" after "@mode" as, if that works, it will reduce the privileges needed. (Ideally code should be written to use auth_userokay(3) as that would be safer again, it no longer would need to access the password db itself, just needing setgid _auth, but that's a bigger change).
