aird stands for "Apple IR daemon" and is the utility you need if you want to control your computer via the Apple Remote.
Apple IR receiver modules are found on:
o MacBook (any generation)
o MacBook Pro (any generation)
o Intel iMac
o Intel MacMini
Example for use with audacious audio player:
