All the best, David, England, misty with the sun breaking through

Observations on an Anonymous pamphlet, by Francis Cunningham 52265 [Subtitle: which has been distributed in Lowestoft, and its Neighbourhood] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/5/2/2/6/52265 ] [Files: 52265-0.txt; 52265-h.htm] For those wishing to know: a 1817 response to a pamphlet written by Rev. Richard Lockwood, vicar of Lowestoft, on why churchmen should not join the Bible Society (eText 52042). Francis Cunningham, who was a major leader in the Bible Society, and rector of Pakefield, the next parish to Lowestoft, rebutts Rev. Lockwood's points and probably didn't realise that it was his fellow minister whose pamphlet he was attacking. Rev. Lockwood knew it was Francis Cunningham who was advocating the Bible Society, hence his original pamphlet. All the best, David, England, growing cool as night falls and no rain as yet

A Record of St. Cybi's Church, Holyhead, by Arthur Penrhyn Stanley 52261 [Subtitle: and the Sermon preached after its Restoration, 1879] [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/5/2/2/6/52261 ] [Files: 52261-0.txt; 52261-h.htm] For those wishing to know: a bit of a mystery pamphlet: the sermon part was definately Arthur Penrhyn Stanley, the Dean of Westminster, but the pamphlet itself and it's brief history of the church is probably 1897 so perhaps they wanted a pamphlet to mark the improvements of 1897 and also Queen Victoria's Jubilee and an short history plus pictures wasn't long enough, so they added Stanley's sermon. All the best, David, England with a gray sky and the heaviness of forthcoming rain

The Visitor’s Hand-Book for Holyhead, by Thomas Jackson 52260 [Link: http://www.gutenberg.org/5/2/2/6/52260 ] [Files: 52260-0.txt; 52260-h.htm] For those wishing to know: Thomas Jackson was an Englishman who worked a "Town Missionary" to Holyhead in North Wales at a time when major developments were taking place. Often asked for information about the town, which was trying to position itself as a tourist attraction, he decided to write the first guide book. Much of what he described is still there and even today Holyhead does trade on those developments when it comes to tourism. All the best, David, England: clouding over with heavy rain expected
