But it's not always (majority?) a just a building. Pubs, churches, even 
shops cover larger land space than just the building footprint ie 
parking, beer garden, cemetery etc. When I change a node to an area, 
it's, more often than not, to cover the whole of that establishments land.

 I have recently discovered the shift-click operation in Potlatch2 to
 convert a tagged node into a tagged area.  This is very useful, but it
 doesn't turn that area into a building, which for many if not most types
 of nodes (e.g. almost anything with amenity=* or shop=* set) is
 incorrect—so the "default path" for the user yields incorrect tagged data,
 and rather than improving the rendering it actually degrades the rendering
 (since now the amenity won't show up at all).  This seems suboptimal.

 It would be really nice if when I convert a node to a way, at least if
 it's a shop or amenity or anything like that, for Potlatch to
 automatically set building=yes.
