Interesting, I never saw his message, it's not even in my spam (quite a few
Profox emails end up in Google's spam) :(

 I have several (Windows Explorer) folders containing archived TB
 (Thunderbird) emails which I want to review and clean up (i.e. get
 rid of for good). These folders have an SBD extension and these
 correspond to TB's folders. They contain files with no extension
 (these contain the actual
 emails) and which I believe are "MBOX" files. They also contain
 files with an MSF extension which apparently contain summaries of
 the MBOX
>>> contents.

 One possible approach might be to set up TB or another email client
 which works with MBOX type files. I made a first attempt at this
 with TB but got stuck at the stage where it wants details of
 incoming and outgoing server accounts (I don't want to set up an account).

 Another approach might be to export all the MBOX messages as
 individual EML files. Here any recommendations for free/cheap
 solutions without limitations would be helpful - I have used
 Thunderstor in the past but now can only find a trial version with
 no
>>> means to upgrade.

 The idea then would be to use VFP to parse the EML files for
 subject, sender, recipient, date and content as well as to decode
 and save any attachments.

 Any ideas or suggestions regarding either approach (or a different
 approach) will be most welcome. In particular, I would not want to
 reinvent the wheel regarding the parsing of the EMLs - so if
 anybody knows of any tools or existing code that could be helpful .

 Many thanks, and apologies for the length of the message

Hey Paul - OK, no worries. Got it.

On the website - does it stated whether it's a free or paid type of tool?
And, once you do try it out - I'd be curious to know what you think about it
- and if it does what you need done.

Oddly - I still to this day get strange looks from people when I mention
Thunderbird. As I've been using it since nearly its original inception -
which I THINK when Mozilla was 1st released or shortly there after. I've
enjoyed using Thunderbird - and I am surprised that I almost NEVER Come
across anyone that uses Thunderbird!!!

I don't really have anything to pass on in the way of info - I just Googled
"em Client" and Google came up with
About 2,760,000,000 results (0.49 seconds)
Thankfully the first result takes you straight to their website where you
can download it. I haven't yet looked at it other than as described in my

Accessing/processing archived emails

2022-04-11 Thread paul.newton.hudl
Hi all

I have several (Windows Explorer) folders containing archived TB
(Thunderbird) emails which I want to review and clean up (i.e. get rid of
for good). These folders have an SBD extension and these correspond to TB's
folders. They contain files with no extension (these contain the actual
emails) and which I believe are "MBOX" files. They also contain files with
an MSF extension which apparently contain summaries of the MBOX contents.

One possible approach might be to set up TB or another email client which
works with MBOX type files. I made a first attempt at this with TB but got
stuck at the stage where it wants details of incoming and outgoing server
accounts (I don't want to set up an account).

Another approach might be to export all the MBOX messages as individual EML
files. Here any recommendations for free/cheap solutions without
limitations would be helpful - I have used Thunderstor in the past but now
can only find a trial version with no means to upgrade.

The idea then would be to use VFP to parse the EML files for subject,
sender, recipient, date and content as well as to decode and save any
attachments.

Any ideas or suggestions regarding either approach (or a different approach)
will be most welcome. In particular, I would not want to reinvent the wheel
regarding the parsing of the EMLs - so if anybody knows of any tools or
existing code that could be helpful .

Many thanks, and apologies for the length of the message

Paul Newton

Following the advice given on the Hentzenwerke web site to purchase a
printed version of this book on Amazon, I did so and it arrived today. I
wrote to bo...@hentzenwerke.com   on 26th
March requesting the password for the PDF version (which I have downloaded
from there), but have had no reply.

Can anybody help (I can provide proof of purchase if required)?

Many thanks

P.S. I also purchased "Megafox" but that is not arriving for another 1-2
weeks, and I will probably have the same problem with that.

Hi Tracy

Thanks for your reply. I used Sysinternals Process Monitor to see if there
was a file handle for the temp image file and there wasn't one. However, I
suspect it is something along those lines. In the meantime I am using a
different temp file each time and then deleting them in the form Destroy

Hi Paul,

I have a couple of places that have an BMP loaded in the Image control on a
form. The user can change the picture in a popup modal form. The original
image is overwritten on disk with code in the modal. When the modal closes,
the image is refreshed on the original form.

I'm curious if the GDIPlusX method is leaving the control open with a file
handle to the image.

Hi all

I have an image control whose Picture property is a temporary BMP (say
Temp1.BMP). I am trying to redisplay the image control with a new Picture
property of Temp2.BMP or with a modified Temp1.BMP

Using GDIPlusX, I am creating the BMPs with the BitMap.Save method. Once I
have used Temp1.BMP as the picture and later trying to use BitMap.Save again
to overwrite Temp1.BMP, the changes are not saved (no error though)

So I used BitMap.Save to create Temp2.BMP, set Temp2.BMP as the picture
(which worked fine) and then tried to delete Temp1.BMP. Again this failed
(file in use or similar).

I tried Clear Resource Temp1.BMP before Erase Temp1.BMP but that didn't work
either.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Many thanks

Forms layout manager

2022-03-03 Thread paul.newton.hudl
Hi all

I wonder whether this might be useful and/or of interest - it can be
downloaded here:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1v_JUnY-o0jJY-WvpW6N0rO2O7GolFKRd?usp
=sharing

Paul Newton

Forms layout manager (FLM)

Description

This is a small utility that enables saving and restoring of form layouts.

Many of you will have come across situations where the controls on a form
are shuffled around at runtime. In order to achive this, the developer
will have to work with one form design and then adjust TOP and LEFT for a
number of controls by implementing code to make the runtime adjustments.
But all the time, in design mode they only see one layout.

What if you could have one form (SCX) but have two different views of it at
design time and implement either or both designs at run time (i.e. expose
one design or the other for the user, or even let the user switch between
the two different layouts).

What if all of this could be achieved more or less effortlessly and with no
need to remember and or calculate object positions?

Welcome to the Forms layout manager.

How it works

Start with a form design, say "Expanded". Run the Forms layout manager and
have it store the positions of all the objects at the form level. These
will be stored in a table (well I never) and the same table will be used for
all forms and all form designs.

At the same time that the form design is being saved, FLM can also generate
code to reposition the controls at runtime.

Now modify the form design, reposition the controls, make the form larger or
smaller and so on. Let's call this design "Compact". Let FLM save the new
layout and generate the code to reproduce the layout at runtime.

Now whenever you want to work in the form designer, and see in the designer
what the user will see, simply use FLM to restore the required layout
("Expanded" or "Compact"). In other words, when working in the form designer
you will see just one design, uncluttered by the controls in the other
layout.

At the moment, FLM only processes LEFT and TOP but it is designed in such a
way that other properties (e.g. WIDTH, HEIGHT, FILLCOLOR etc) could be
handled in the same way with minimal changes required in FLM.

I have not yet investigated whether the concept could be extended to classes
in a VCX. One thing at a time ...

Remember: ActiveX Controls are essentially mini Windows programs contained in
their own (borderless) window. VFP creates a hole in it's own form-window where
that ActiveX is then peeking through. For the user there is no visual
difference, but programmatically it's a foreign module. With making it
invisible, VFP just closes that hole in it's window, and then reopens it, which
then forces the ActiveX module to use that hole...

Problem moving controls on a form at runtime

2022-02-26 Thread paul.newton.hudl
Hi all

I am trying to reposition controls on a form at runtime and all is working
well, except for one control (Microsoft Web Browser olecontrol). I can
adjust its width and height, but whatever I have tried fails to move the
control to a new Top and Left position on the form.

I have tried setting Top and Left on the control and its object (i.e. on
MyOLEControl and on MyOLEControl.Object. I have tried in the form Init, in
the form Activate and from a command button Click event after the form has
displayed.  All to no avail.

Am I missing something here? I can probably resolve the problem by putting
the oleControl inside a container and then moving the container, but I would
rather not have to do that.

Many thanks

Paul Newton

I may not have all the details correct, and don't know this year's
terminology, but consider "Program Files" to be read-only. Microsoft bans
lowly users * from writing to the Program Files location to prevent the
spread of malware, and offer something like "Shadow Folders" for users
attempts to write there -- your personal version of those files, buried
somewhere in User//Local FIles or some such hidden nonsense.
When this file gets corrupted, finding it, deleting it and getting back to
work is not obvious.

Because this switch-er-roo is done transparently at the OS level, you can't
see the actual files you are using at the File Explorer level, nor the
command line, nor within VFP. This deception, "protecting the user from
themselves" is typical paternalistic and poorly-thought-out Microsoft Fred
attitude.

It's better, imo, to move any files you plan to use in your project into
your project's folders (and into source code control!) and use them from
there.

* In microsoft's view, we are all lowly users.

Even better, I see w00dy has posted; follow his advice.

Sounds like you have installed your VFP folder in the \program files\
branch?
Don't do that. Never. Never install any VFP DevTools into that folder.
You don't have write permissions there, and Windows redirects all writes to
the VirtualStore.

Look into %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\ if you'll find that broken copy there

Hi all

When I open REGISTRY.VCX from its usual location (in folder FFC), there are
no classes present.

I have a good copy elsewhere and when I open it the expected classes are
there.

So, I copied the VCX and VCT from the good location to the FFC folder but
still opening it from FFC there are no classes present.

The VFP home folder is excluded from virus checking.

I am completely baffled (and very, very frustrated) .

Subject: Report to Microsoft PDF Printer creates text as images.

We have a customer who when printing a particular report from a Visual
Foxpro application sometimes selects the Microsoft PDF Printer (installed
with MS Office). This then prompts for a PDF file to save the report output
to. They then open the PDF in Acrobat Reader or whatever and need to select
and copy some text from it.

The problem is that sometimes the PDF is rendered as an image so no
individual elements are selectable in Acrobat Reader. All fonts on the
layout are standard Arial. There are no settings on the PDF printer to
adjust and nothing on the VFP side that I can see would affect it.

Replicating this process with the report layouts in question on my PC works
fine.

Has anyone ever come across this ?

Subject: VFP code window contents to HTML - request for help/collaboration

Hi all

I am working on a project which I hope may be of interest to VFP developers
and which I intend to make available on Ed's downloads section (if I can get
it working properly). It is designed to:

Use the clipboard to copy code from an open code window

Fetch the contents of the clipboard as RTF

Convert the RTF to HTML and display it in a web browser control

It could be helpful in two ways:

1. To experiment with different colours and styles, change them and see the
results immediately. You can change several areas (Keywords etc) and having
made the changes (either one at a time or all at once) see their effect on
the code in the web browser (instead of that stupid little preview that you
get in Tools~Options~Editor) 2. The resulting HTML could be copied to the
clipboard and pasted straight into, for example, a web page or blog.

At the moment the RTF to HTML conversion itself makes use of a third party
control (TextDynamic). Not only is this control complete overkill for what
is needed, but it is also eye-wateringly expensive (as in £ hundreds).

So I have put together (from various sources) a C#/.NET application to do
the conversion and it builds successfully. However stepping through the code
I get to a point where there seems to be a problem (not an error, just not
doing what I tell it to do ...). The relevant part of the code is based on
HtmlToXamlDemo.HtmlFromXamlConverter.WriteFlowDocument(System.Xml.XmlTextRea
der, System.Xml.XmlTextWriter) Example (csharpcodi.com)

rter.WriteFlowDocument(System.Xml.XmlTextReader,%20System.Xml.XmlTextWriter)
/>

If anybody would be prepared to work on this with me, or to help me move
forward, would they please contact me off-list.

Many thanks

I wish I knew why Lookout/Exchange keeps uuencoding my emails...

One other way to approach controlling foxuser is to create a configuration
file (clean.fpw) that has

RESOURCE=OFF

in it. For example, I have one that looks like this:

COMMAND=SYS(3050, 1, 512*1024*1024)
RESOURCE=OFF
BELL=OFF
CATMAN=OFF
MVCOUNT=2400
KEYCOMP = WINDOWS
MULTILOCK=ON
TALK = OFF
EXCLUSIVE = OFF

But to continue with your environment testing the RESOURCE line is all you
should need. Then start VFP with the -c switch pointing at the clean.fpw.
Use the full path to the config if it's not in the directory where you are
invoking VFP. At that point VFP should not be picking up any saved info from
foxuser. This time for sure

Hi Richard

I have tried setting RESOURCE OFF and it makes no difference - my code
window is still showing the wrong colours.

Or just set resource off if you don't want to wipe out your resource file.

Just a WAG - if VFP is remembering something it will most likely be in
foxuser.dbf - have you tried deleting that?

Update and summary of findings: Syntax highlighting, registry settings and Tools~Options~Editor settings

2022-02-15 Thread paul.newton.hudl
Hi everybody

I make no apologies for reposting under a different subject but I think it
is necessary to avoid confusion. After carrying out a series of tests, and
restarting VFP each time I make a change, I can summarise my findings as
follows (what I expect is the settings I can see in the Registry Editor)

Summary

1. Sometimes my code window is not what I expect, but the sample code
window is what I expect and yet the colour dropdowns do not reflect either
(the colour dropdowns do not even agree with the sample code window)
2. Sometimes my code window and the sample code window are both what I
expect but the colour dropdowns do not reflect the same
3. Generally speaking the sample code window IS what I expect even when
my code window and the colour dropdowns are NOT what I expect

I am wondering if VFP's highlighting in my code windows is "remembering"
something from somewhere which is overriding the registry settings? The
only thing I can seem to reply upon is the sample code window in the options
dialog.

Any thoughts, comments or ideas will be highly appreciated. Many thanks.

Paul Newton

Further investigation shows that there is still a problem. I am carrying

VFP code editor syntax highlighting not working properly (totally screwed up) - SOLVED

2022-02-15 Thread paul.newton.hudl
Hi all

Although the problem has been fixed, I thought this may be helpful and/or of
interest to some of you. I have also added at the bottom a REQUEST FOR HELP
regarding when changes to colour settings take effect (if anybody thinks
that should be a different thread, I will post another message for that)

I have recently been experimenting with different colours in the code
editor. I have been using VFP's own Tools~Options~Editor and have also been
importing .REG files. Everything has been working fine until this morning
(I have made no changes this morning).

I have tried "Reset All" and importing/merging a .REG file. I exported the
VFP Options from Registry Editor and this is what the .REG contained (only
relevant entries)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualFoxPro\9.0\Options]

"EditorCommentColor"="RGB(0,128,0,255,255,255), NoAuto, Auto"

"EditorKeywordColor"="RGB(0,0,255,255,255,255), NoAuto, Auto"

"EditorConstantColor"="RGB(0,0,0,255,255,255), Auto, Auto"

"EditorNormalColor"="RGB(0,0,0,255,255,255), Auto, Auto"

"EditorOperatorColor"="RGB(0,0,0,255,255,255), Auto, Auto"

"EditorStringColor"="RGB(0,0,0,255,255,255), Auto, Auto"

"EditorVariableColor"="RGB(0,0,0,255,255,255), Auto, Auto"

"EditorCommentStyle"="-1"

"EditorKeywordStyle"="-1"

"EditorConstantStyle"="-1"

"EditorNormalStyle"="-1"

"EditorOperatorStyle"="-1"

"EditorStringStyle"="-1"

"EditorVariableStyle"="-1"

Just after I started this message, I had another thought - in Registry
Editor, delete all the Editor colour entries and start over. Hey presto,
that solved the problem.

REQUEST FOR HELP

When I make changes to colours using Tools~Options~Editor, the changes take
effect immediately. If I change one or more colours *from within* VFP by
modifying the registry entries. The changes only take effect after
restarting VFP. Is there/might there be a way to force VFP to respect the
changed colours immediately?

Many thanks

Paul Newton

I can't say for sure but you may have an incompatible version of MFC70.DLL.
Back when I was working with Gkktools trying to get them working, I got them to
work easily on my laptop but I had a hard time getting them working on my
desktop. I ended up downloading several different copies of the Visual C++
Runtime before I finally got everything to play well together.
all the runtimes I downloaded contained a MFC70.DLL but they were not the same
file. This may not be the same problem you are having but it is possible that
it is a similar issue. -Jeff

Place it in the same directory as the OCX file.

Tracy

P.S. It could be in the path environment variable. This is not recommended
as older versions have vulnerabilities, or could be changed to be a
vulnerability.

Hi all

I have come up with a rather frustrating anomaly. In the debugger I can set
the picture of a particular item in a listbox or dropdown list like this
(THIS is either one of the two controls)

THIS.Picture(nListIndex) = "SomePicture.BMP" and it works in both cases.
But if I try this

THIS.FontNamer(nListIndex) = "SomeFontName" it does not work even though
THIS.FontNamer(nListIndex) is a property which I can change in the debugger.

Does anybody have any thoughts or insights on this or is it "just one of
those things".

Many thanks

Hi all

I have followed the install instructions and I have Thor.APP and the
"Source" folder in Home().\Tools\Thor.

When I run Thor.App it complains that MenuDefintions.FPT is missing or
invalid BUT instead of referring to

.Tools\Thor\Source\Tables (where I can open the table without a problem) it
is expecting to find MenuDefinitions in .Tools\Thor\Thor\Tables

As usual, any help will be much appreciated.

RE: Copy contents of code/editor window with formatting

2022-02-07 Thread paul.newton.hudl
Hi Christof

Many, many thanks for your reply. It looks like just what I need and I will
try it out later today.

In the meantime I have come up with a different approach for the time being.
I have created a form with an RTF OLE control and an edit box. I run the
form using CTRL+F10. In my editing window I use CTRL+A, CTRL+C. Pressing
CTRL+F10 brings up my form and in the RTL OLE control I press CTRL+V.

In the Change method/event of the RTF control I set the value of the edit
box to the TextRTF property of the control.

BTW - ISX - Is that InstallShield Express?

Thanks again

Paul

Hi Paul,

in ISX I use the following code:

*-
* Get the current window and verify that it is a valid window.
*-
Local lnWHandle
lnWHandle = GetCurrentWindow()
If lnWHandle == 0
If not Empty(m.tcInvocation)
Clear TypeAhead
Keyboard "{Mouse}{Mouse}"+m.tcInvocation Plain
Endif
Return
Endif

*-
* Verify that the current window is indeed an edit window.
*-
Local lnEditSource
lnEditSource = GetEditSource(m.lnWHandle)
If not InList( m.lnEditSource, 1, 8, 10, 12 )
If not Empty(m.tcInvocation)
Clear TypeAhead
Keyboard "{Mouse}{Mouse}"+m.tcInvocation Plain
Endif
Return
EndIf

*
* Determines the source of the window identified by the passed
* WHandle. It returns the following values:
*
* -1 The window is not an edit window
*  0 Command Window
*  1 MODIFY COMMAND window
*  2 MODIFY FILE window
* 8 Menu Designer code window
* 10 Method Edit Window in Class or Form Designer
* 12 MODIFY PROCEDURE window
*
* This procedure uses _EdGetEnv() from the FoxTools.Fll to determine
* the edit source. Passing an invalid handle causes an exception in
* VFP 5 and VFP 3. In VFP 6 this raises an error 2028 (API function
* caused an exception). Therefore we return -1 in this case, too.
*
Procedure GetEditSource
LParameter tnWHandle

On Error lnOK = 0
lnOK = _EdGetEnv( m.tnWHandle, @laEnv )
On Error
If m.lnOK == 0
lnSource = -1
Else
lnSource = laEnv[25]
Endif

Return m.lnSource

*
* Returns the WHandle of the current edit window or 0, if no edit
* window is available.
*
Procedure GetCurrentWindow

Local lnWindowOnTop
lnWindowOnTop = _WOnTop()
If m.lnWindowOnTop <= 0
Return 0
Endif
If GetEditSource( m.lnWindowOnTop ) == -1
lnWindowOnTop = 0

Return m.lnWindowOnTop

Yes but that displays the rendered RTF and I want to work with the underlying

I don't know about automating it but this seems to work in the edit window:
Ctl_A  Ctl_C  -> in e.g. Word - Ctl_V  - save as  type .rtf

Copy contents of code/editor window with formatting

2022-02-06 Thread paul.newton.hudl
Hi all

I am trying to copy the contents of the editing window that is currently
active (i.e. that I am editing) as text with its RTF formatting code. What
I have got (cribbed) so far is this:

SET LIBRARY TO (HOME()+"Foxtools.FLL")

nWHAND =_EDOPENFIL("TEST.PRG", 1)

nEDstart = _EDSKIPLIN(m.nWHAND,0,0)

nEDend   = _EDSKIPLIN(m.nWHAND,0,10)

= _EDSELECT(m.nWHAND, m.nEDstart, m.nEDend)

= _EDCOPY(m.nWHAND)

= _EDCLOSEFI(m.nWHAND, 0)

This works fine insofar as I can paste the code into Word and see that the
code highlighting is correct. But there are a couple of issues I haven't
yet been able to resolve:

1. I want it to work with the current/open editing window
2. I want to work with the underlying RTF, i.e. the text together with
the RTF formatting tags

I expect to invoke the code to do this via a hotkey so that the window that
I am working on will be the active window. Any help or suggestions would be
much appreciated.  Many thanks.

Thanks Alan (and all other responders)

I have everything working as expected for SCX, VCX, MNX, FRX and LBX. I am
still to address DBF, DBC, PRG and, perhaps, QPR

The funny thing is that I can't remember having had this work in the past
and had been assuming all along that VFP simply did not work as expected
when double-clicking Fox files in Explorer - hence my attempts with
PowerShell (and with a C # console app).

For me double-clicking a PJX in Windows also opens VFP9 with the project
file open and ready.

When I examine the .pjx entry using FileTypesMan
(https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/file_types_manager.html) the registry key is:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Visual.FoxPro.Project\shell\open\command

and the value is a REG_SZ equal to

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9\vfp9.exe" -SHELLOPEN "%1"

Paul,

I'm not sure why you're having to go to such lengths. When I double-click a
PJX or PJT file in Windows Explorer, the project automatically opens up in
the project manager.

Hi all

I have been toying on and off over several years with a method of opening
VFP with a MODIFY command when double-clicking a file in Explorer. For
example, double-clicking on a PJX in Explorer should open VFP with the
command MODIFY PROJECT  NOWAIT.

I am almost there, maybe. At the moment everything is in C:\Temp

ConFig.FPW contains

Command = C:\Temp\FoxOpen.PRG

*FoxOpen.PRG is constructed on-the fly by a PowerShell script TEST.PS1 as
follows:

TEST.PS1

Param([string]$a)

$file=Get-Item "$a"

$Extension = $file.Extension.ToUpper()

$Command = ""

switch ($Extension)

{

.PJX

{

$Command = "Modify Project '"+ $a + "' NOWAIT"

}

   # Other cases follow

}

Set-Content -Path C:\Temp\FoxOpen.PRG -Value $Command

& "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9\vfp9.exe"
-CC:\Temp\Config.FPW

I have tested this in a PowerShell console like this

PS C:\Temp> C:\Temp\Test.PS1 where is a fully qualified
path to a PJX, enclosed in single quotes

I have also tested in a COMMAND window like this

C:\Temp> PowerShell C:\Temp\Test.PS1  again where  is a
fully qualified path to a PJX, enclosed in single quotes

So far, so good. Now for how to implement the shell command. My registry
settings are as follows:

Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

PJXFile  (Default)  REG-SZ Project (FoxPro)

Shell (Default) REG_SZ (value not set)

Modify project (Default) REG_SZ (value not
set)

Command   (Default)
REG_SZ "POWERSHELL C:\Temp\Test1.PS1" "%1"

However, double-clicking on a PJX results in:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have
the appropriate permissions to access the item.

It seems as if I am nearly there, so any suggestions will be very gratefully
received.  Many thanks

Now it might be the quote marks and the parameters. Perhaps a single quote
mark.

"C:\Temp\Test1.PS1 '%1'"

Embedded quotes.

I'm grabbing at straws here.
The original entry was this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9\vfp9.exe" -SHELLOPEN "%1"

Me, I had created config.fpw files for each of my projects that have a
command entry to run a startup.prg that does my environment setup and opens
my project files.

I've not gotten myself into PowerShell. I'm so used to a command prompt from
the DOS days when we started Windows from a command.

You may need the fully qualified path to the PowerShell executable for it to
work.

Subject: Problem trying to run a Powershell script as an Explorer shell
command (Fox related)

Command = C:\Temp\FoxOpen.PRG

*FoxOpen.PRG is constructed on-the fly by a PowerShell script TEST.PS1 as
follows:

TEST.PS1

Param([string]$a)

$file=Get-Item "$a"

$Extension = $file.Extension.ToUpper()

$Command = ""

switch ($Extension)

{

.PJX

{

$Command = "Modify Project '"+ $a + "' NOWAIT"

}

   # Other cases follow

}

Set-Content -Path C:\Temp\FoxOpen.PRG -Value $Command

& "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual FoxPro 9\vfp9.exe"
-CC:\Temp\Config.FPW

I have tested this in a PowerShell console like this

PS C:\Temp> C:\Temp\Test.PS1 where is a fully qualified
path to a PJX, enclosed in single quotes

I have also tested in a COMMAND window like this

C:\Temp> PowerShell C:\Temp\Test.PS1  again where  is a
fully qualified path to a PJX, enclosed in single quotes

So far, so good. Now for how to implement the shell command. My registry
settings are as follows:

Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

PJXFile  (Default)  REG-SZ Project (FoxPro)

Shell (Default) REG_SZ (value not set)

Modify project (Default) REG_SZ (value not
set)

Command   (Default)
REG_SZ "POWERSHELL C:\Temp\Test1.PS1" "%1"

However, double-clicking on a PJX results in:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have
the appropriate permissions to access the item.

It seems as if I am nearly there, so any suggestions will be very gratefully
received.  Many thanks

Paul Newton

P.S. My first attempt at doing anything useful with PowerShell

[NF] Compatibility tab missing from file properties in Explorer

2021-12-02 Thread paul.newton.hudl
Hi all

I have tried two methods to restore the compatibility tab in Windows 10

In Local Group Policy Editor ~ Computer Configuration ~ Administrative
Templates ~ Windows Components ~ Application Compatibility I have set
"Remove Program Compatibility Property Page" to disabled.

In the registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\AppCompat I have
added the DWORD DisablePropPage and set the value to 0 (Hex).

I have restarted Explorer and restarted my computer but still the
Compatibility tab is missing. I can set compatibility mode using the Program
Compatibility Troubleshooter but it is very long-winded. Any suggestions
would be highly appreciated.

[NF] Help with LastPass

2021-10-21 Thread paul.newton.hudl
Hi all

I think it was Ed who first brought LastPass to my/our attention. I have
never looked back, so, thanks Ed

I have a login page which requires a Customer Number and a Surname or
Postcode (in my vase it will be my surname).

How can I set up LastPass to save and autofill this login page?

And any advice on setting up and using Form Fields in LastPass would also be
very helpful.

Many thanks

Sorry, Paul, that was my best guess. I quit Windows networking when AD came
along. I'm sure people have solved this problem, keep searching.

Upgrading may be the fastest/cheapest solution, I agree.

RE: [NF] Windows 10 Home networking and Explorer

2021-09-23 Thread paul.newton.hudl
Hi Ted et al
I tried everything there without success. I'm at the stage where the
desktop is showing no computers on the network (not even itself) and the
laptop is showing all the computers and a networked printer, but only if
SMB1 is enabled (which, after Alan's warning, I don't want to do). Would I
be right in thinking that I could solve everything by upgrading to Windows
10 Professional?

[NF] Windows 10 Home networking and Explorer

2021-09-20 Thread paul.newton.hudl
Hi all

I am afraid that I have been rather quiet since being made redundant at the
end of February but I am now having a problem with "Network" in File
Explorer.  This is the setup:

Virgin Hub 3 connected via cable to

  DesktopPC, Laptop, US robotics Mini NAS adapter and Netgear Powerline
adapter

I have an external drive (STORAGE-0001) connected via USB to the NAS
adapter.

On both the desktop and the laptop Network in File Explorer shows

Media Devices(1)

Sorage-0001 which when opened shows the NAS manager in a browser window/tab

Network Infrastructure (1)

  ARRIS TG2492LG-85 Router which when opened shows the Hub 3 settings in a
browser window/tab

On the Desktop, Network in File Manager shows Computers (3)

  DesktopPC

  Laptop

  Storage-001 (which when opened shows the shared Public folder on the
external drive)

However, on the Laptop, Network in File Manager shows Computers (1) which is
the laptop itself and when opened shows its shared folder(s).

DesktopPC and Storage-0001 are not shown but can be opened by typing their
network names (\\ DesktopPC and \\Storage-0001 ) into
the Explorer address bar.

After searching and trying all manner of suggestions I am still unable to
resolve the issue (I am not even sure whether changes are required on the
laptop or the desktop or both). I can provide further information if needed.

Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated. Many thanks, and
apologies for the length of the message

Paul Newton
