Happy Christmas to all you foxy buggers.

Was up at 4AM building LEGO. Fun. Wired on coffee now. Will have dinner,
then a quality beer (Sierra Nevada looking good), and then I will be a
very sleepy Alan indeed.

Same as Alan Bourke, another from Ireland, William Tormey wishes
everyone in the land of his father's brith a safe and happy celebration.
My son in Bronxville New York is at the building Lego stage, and my

grandchildren on the way. I miss Limerock Conn. and the wonderful years
there.

Happiness is something you love doing. My life's work has been a

Hi Guys!

For *years* I thought Boxing Day had to do with the sport of boxing.

Actually in the US social circles it is considered a Canadian holiday
upon which each servant is supposed to receive a box from his employer
containing an appropriate gift. In other parts of the UK the servant
idea is expanded to less fortunate, a Shopping Holiday or even a day
for football (in the UK sense), Cricket, Hockey or Yacht racing.

Looks like it will be an interesting Christmas. A local gas explosion means
that we won't have gas at home for heating and cooking and the electricity
feed which was damaged at the same time will only be available 2 hours a day
up until Boxing day. Also, once we had electric on last night the TV cable
connection died!!!

It should be interesting cooking a turkey on a camp stove though!!!

Hi Allen, Everybody!

Yes, you are ALMOST right. Those of a certain color are allowed to GIVE,
but not to receive. That said, there is a certain joy to giving.

Quite by chance I got to participate in a Church project that resulted
in a local 16 year old getting a wonderful Roland AT-90S organ as a
Christmas surprise. An honor student, she is the daughter of a
struggling immigrant mother. She won a recent local organ competition
while she didn't even have an organ in her home to practice on!

http://www.rolandus.com/uploads/CMS/Downloads/1369/AT-90S.pdf

One of my coworkers on a different Charity project chanced to mention
that a widow of our acquaintance was having no luck whatever turning her
late husband's organ into any amount of cash at all. Used home organs
don't sell because they are in reality computers - obsolete in 18
months. I relayed this to my own organ teacher who knew the girl, also
knew that this particular organ was ideal for the girl's practice and
was able to get the widow a good tax deduction through a church
brokering the deal. A win for everybody!

We got the organ to the girl's house yesterday. She will have many years
of use of it if she can get her big brother off the bench! The brother,
however, was a major muscle in getting the 400 lb beast out of my truck.

Merry Christmas Everybody, including those who take offense at Christ!

 Merry Christmas Adam.

I thought they outlawed Christmas in the UK because it offended some people.

Best wishes to everyone from over here in the UK.

Special thanks obviously to Ed and Paul for the list itself and their work
with Dabo and all the other list contributors, lurkers and visitors.

Seeya all in the new year.

RE: Merry Christmas and a Parting Thought

2006-12-21 Thread Bill Arnold

I've dropped into lurker status of (temporary, I hope) economic
necessity, but continue to appreciate the excellent thoughts and sharing
of most people on this list, so will take this moment to say so.

I wish everyone a great Christmas and New Year's holidays! Religious
differences aside, I'm sure that most of us appreciate the message of
peace and goodwill that we want to associate with Christmas.

P.s. to be sure, work on my product is coming along very well. It's just
taking a lot of time to get the whole thing right.

If you've got time to write comments -- you've got time to refactor.
If you've got time to refactor, you've got time to write unit tests.
If you've got time to write unit tests, you've got time to redesign the
system.
If you've got time to redesign, you've got time to drink.
Have a beer. Comments are for sissies.

Enjoy your Beer!
