Re: [PSAS] Big Rocket
It was a great success, by the way. Here is one of the best videos of the launch and recovery. Interesting thought on the separation system, though (pg 4). We had a similar idea, but I think the one we're using may be more reliable. The article says he's got a ten foot diameter parachute... Can that be right? It seems WAY small. Maybe he's using several of them? Quoting jay1 : from slashdot.com "On April 25, 2009, history will be made. At Higgs Farm in Price, Maryland, Steve Eves will enter the history books as the person who flew the largest model rocket in history. The rocket will weigh over 1,600 pounds, it will stand over 36 feet tall and it will be powered by a massive array of nine motors: eight 13,000ns N-Class motors and a 77,000ns P-Class motor." [PSAS] New launch date: Sunday May 31st.
Hi everyone, This last Tuesday we decided that either May 31st or June 14th would work for us as a new launch date. It turns out that fate has decided for us: only the 31st works for Pete, our fearless motor builder. The giant drawback of the 31st is that we'll lose Jamey and Sarah since they'll be on vacation - but as Jamey mentioned, as long as we launch again later this summer, that's OK :) Note that this will probably be a very different launch than past launches: if we are to use the Brother's launch site, we'll be doing it under the rules of the Tripoli Rocketry Associate, using their waiver and their insurance. This has a *lot* of ramifications, which we'll have to discuss this coming Sunday. See you then! [PSAS] Integration and test day, 10:00am Sunday 5/3 in Tigard
Hi everyone, This coming Sunday at 10:00am we'll start an all day integration and test day. We'll try out our revamped ground systems, test the rocket on the rail, fire up the old ground equipment, and get organized for the 5/31 launch. Since most of the ground equipment is at Tim's house, and he has a fairly large lawn, we'll be doing it there at his house in Tigard. If you need directions, please ask off list. Thanks, and see you there!
