[PSAS] PSAS and the Electronics Prototyping Lab (EPL)

2018-09-06 Thread Andrew Greenberg
Hi everyone!

We talked about this on Tuesday, but I wanted everyone to have this in
writing:

As most of you know, the rocket room adjoins the Electronics Prototyping
Lab (EPL). The EPL is a rapid prototyping lab run by the PSU ECE
department. It is in no way associated with PSAS. The EPL is run by
trained and vetted student "managers". Only official student managers
can have the EPL open, and allow others into the lab.

Not surprisingly, many PSAS folk are also EPL managers, because we're
just that kind of people. But there's no official link.

Given that background, there are some EXTREMELY IMPORTANT RULES that may
NOT be broken. They are:

1. NO ONE may be in the EPL without an EPL manager present. Ever.

PSAS folk may NOT be in the EPL unless a manager is present. We don't
have "special access", and no manager may give us "special access". This
is important because of the door between the two rooms: it may only be
open if there's an EPL manager in the EPL or in the PSAS room. If
there's not, CLOSE THE DOOR.

2. No tools from the EPL may leave the EPL.

No tools from the EPL may ever leave the EPL. This includes NOT going
into the PSAS room. If you need an EPL tool, bring your work into the EPL.

Conversely, if you ever bring PSAS tools into the EPL, be SURE to bring
them back. Else they'll get sucked into the EPL and never be found again.

3. Follow all EPL rules, even better than everyone else.

We don't have special dispensation because, admittedly, we're cool. So
don't do things like jump 3D printer queues, or leave a mess. Instead,
be excellent users of the lab and leave the lab better than when you
found. Always clean up your area, and even around you.

4. Become an EPL manager!

If you're a current student, and you get trained on all the EPL
equipment, and you can volunteer hours, you can be an EPL manager too. I
encourage everyone to do this, even non-ECE majors! Talk to me, or a
manager, if you want more info.

Finally: if you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or any
EPL manager. Clarity is important here.

Thanks everyone!

Andrew
