cu used to be part of the uucp package. I don't have it loaded on an 8.0
machine, and it does not get loaded by default.

# whichcd uucp

You appear to be running Red Hat Linux 8.0.
I'll search for rpms for that version.

Searching for uucp...
CD-3:uucp-1.06.1-45.i386.rpm
CD-3:uucp-1.06.1-45.src.rpm

So, it looks like it's on the 3rd RedHat CD.

I used to use cu a lot when I had a laptop. I think other people
recommend using minicom ?

# whichcd minicom

You appear to be running Red Hat Linux 8.0.
I'll search for rpms for that version.

Searching for minicom...
CD-1:minicom-2.00.0-6.i386.rpm
CD-4:minicom-2.00.0-6.src.rpm
SOURCE-CD-1:minicom-2.00.0-6.src.rpm

Try minicom.
