Re: Ardour Accessibility

Reaper is not open source. It has a scripting system, an extension API for plug
ins that extend the main program, as well as effect and synth plug in support
for formats like DXI, VST, and JS. You can change a lot, but you can't replace
the main window.

Among the available DAW systems, though, it is the most moddable of any that I
know.

Actually, I think someone could. The deal about reaper, is that it's
completely open source. Therefore, someone could develop a plugin for it that
actually completely changed the look and feel of the program. Wonder if
someone could write a skin that passed a bunch of UX stuff to voiceover, such
as putting things in propper containers such as tables, drawers, button
 groups, etc.

RE: Looking to take Pro Tools 101 here in Tthe Netherlands

2012-01-13 Thread J. R. Westmoreland
Speaking with a little bit of experience, not even close to others on the
list, I tried it without a control surface and with. I have found it much
easier to use many things with a surface than without it. Mark says to think
of a surface as a big mouse. LOL

Will the university there not let you take the classes as continuing
education, not persuing a degree, or something like that?

Hi,
Yeah it's a big amount of money. I have to say it's for a full week. For a
sighted person it's two days and costs about 700 dollar. I assume it's a
private organization. No regular university offer this kind of study, at
all. Only as part of a complete audio enginering study, which I have no
interest in.
My inquery here is to learn which of the inaccessible areas of Pro Tools, I
know a few of them) are possible in other ways such as with a control
surface. Still haven't bought one you know:-) Most important are obviously
the features which cannot be done with Voice Over or external hardware.

Then I can make a good choice if it will be worth the money. The Avid
certificate isn't my main purpose.

Thanks,
Ronald

 That is extremely expensive.
The class here is a 14 week class at 1 hour per week. They assume that
you spend around 2 hours outside class with assignments etc.
I think through the university it is around $400.
The PT110 class is the same.
I'm working on having the two texts for these classes done in braille.
Recording them would be much harder especially since there are lots of
side notes and diagrams, figures and tables that would have to be
described.

Weber State University is certified to teach both PT101 and PT110 as
well as proctor the exams. At least I believe they can do the exams.
Mark has put a lot of effort into teaching the classes and making them
 workable for a blind person.

Sorry, that price just boggles the mind. Mark offered to teach me
One-on-one for something like a fourth of that as I recall.
Even for a third of that cost it would be more reasonable.

Hi, I am in the USA and am also interested in taking the pro tools
certification classes. It would be great to take these classes even
if some areas of pro tools are not accessible as this way we can alert
Avid about these issues and get them resolved. Letting developers
know when their software is not as usable as we would like it is the
only way to make it fully accessible. I always let developers know
about accessibility issues as if we do nothing then the chances of
issues getting fixed are a lot less unless we let them know what needs
to be done. I also find that if done in a nice way most developers
are quite willing to make their software more accessible. Nick

 Hello all,

I have been asking around a bit over here in The Netherlands if and
 where
I could take the Pro tools 101 course. No one has any experience with
blind people and Voice Over but one certain college is willing to give it
a try.
The lenght of the course will be doubled at least and the costs are
going to be as high as 4500 dollar because it's gonna be a one on one
situation.
That's a lot of money when considering no succes is garanteed due to
inaccessibility of some areas in Pro Tools.
So I would like to ask you guys, I know some you like J.R and Kevin
 Reeves
are taking or have taken it, if you could help me making a list with
areas of concern. This way I can show this to the instructor and
discuss the possibilities before wasting lots of money. The course will be
on PT10.

Your input will be greatly appreciated!

 Kind regards,
 Ronald
