another question concerning clip list (re: deleting fades)
Hi again, first of all thank you for your helpful hints concerning my fades-question. Fortunately, I’m a little further with my problem and found out, that I can’t delete a fade in of a clip after having consolidated clips (alt-shift-3). I also found out that the original clip without the fade still remains in the clip list. To recover it I would like to move this clip into the edit-window, but I don’t know, how to do that. I tried to move the mouse to several clips, but my sighted wife told me that it is only possible in pro tools to move the mouse around the clip list, as long as the whole clip list is in the visible area of the screen. My clip list of the session contains many clips, because I did some editing. The VO-Commands for moving the mouse obviously only effect the visible area and I didn’t find a way of scrolling. So how can I navigate the whole clip list and move clips to the edit-window located outside the visible area. I would be glad about any help and sorry for the long explanation. Re: another question concerning clip list (re: deleting fades)
Hi Michael, Yep, once you consolidate, you've created a new file which replaces the old one in the timeline but it still exists in the session. well, you're in a pickle now and this will be a lesson for the future. First, I'll explain the lesson and offer a possible solution. Whenever you're preparing to edit a track, create a duplicate of the track with the playlist pop-up menu. You can edit either the original or the duplicate, it's up to you but definitely work on a playlist that has a copy of it beneath. If you ever find yourself in a situation as you have now, all you need to do is to go to the other playlist and copy what you need and paste it into the playlist you're editing. A sighted user can drag the original clip from the playlist into the time line. I'm not sure why your wife can't seem to accomplish the task but here's an alternative: Hide your tracks and go to the Clips list. Select the original clip and export it as a new file and name it something unique so there's no question what it is. Use Import Audio to Track from the file menu or Command-Shift-i. Navigate to the exported region and press Return then hit the Done button. In the subsequent dialog, press command-t or make sure the first radio button is selected and press return. A new track will come up with the clip at the beginning of the track. Your additional options, should you choose to be so brave, are to import to the original time stamp so the clip will appear in the correct place in the time line. You'll see a pop-up menu in the previously mentioned dialog where you can select Spot which will open a new dialog with various options for where to import the region within the timeline. Hope that helps, Slau On Dec 5, 2014, at 9:44 AM, Michael Kuhlmann hallo-mich...@gmx.de wrote: Hi again, first of all thank you for your helpful hints concerning my fades-question. Re: another question concerning clip list (re: deleting fades)
Hi Slau, thank you very much first. In my next session I will try your idea duplicating tracks and working with different playlists. Unfortunately for this session, the problem starts quite at the beginning: Of course I could have asked my wife to do it for me. But I will have a lot of work with pro tools in the future and wanted to find an accessible workaround first. My clip list is very long and contains about 90 or even 100 clips. Interacting with it lets me audition the first clips by moving the mouse and selecting it without problems. But my original clip is anywhere near the end of the clip list in an invisible area of the screen. Moving the mouse to the clip lets VO speak the correct clip name, but when pressing alt left key for auditioning, Pro Tools loses focus and my VO-Cursor is located on the desktop, the menu-bar or anywhere else. Obviously I can’t move the mouse outside the visible area and so auditioning my original clip either. Do you have any idea in this case? Thanks again and best. Re: another question concerning clip list (re: deleting fades)
Hi Chuck, just that’s the problem. Moving the mouse VO-CMD-f5 works at the top and till the middle of the clip list. But at the bottom of the clip list, VO-CMD-f5 doesn’t perform the wanted action and moves the mouse anywhere instead, to the menu-bar or to the desktop. Alt- left click doesn’t play the selected clip, but locates the cursor outside pro Tools. Re: another question concerning clip list (re: deleting fades)
Hi Chuck, I didn’t know this app yet. Thanks for that. I will try this app and see, if it is possible to move the mouse-pointer from outside Pro Tools to the clip list, because the VO-command doesn’t seem to work. Re: another question concerning clip list (re: deleting fades)
Hi Michael, Chuck still doesn't understand what you're talking about so don't chase him down his rabbit hole. What you want to do is narrow down what's displayed in the clip list. Are you working with only one track or several tracks? If the name of the track you're working with is unique, you can narrow down the clip list with the first few letters of the region name. Press Command-Shift-f while focused on the clip list and type the first few letters of the region name. The list will display only regions with the letters you typed. bTW, you can scroll down the list with a mouse so your wife can find regions further down the list. The other option is to eliminate unused regions. This will dramatically reduce the number of clips within the list. all of these options are within the submenu under Regions list. Finally, to be clear, I didn't say to duplicate the tracks but duplicate the playlist. There still remains the original track but the timeline is duplicated like having a sheet of copy paper underneath. You're always just working on the topmost sheet of paper. Hope that helps, Man, it would be really beneficial to you if you sat down and read through the Pro Tools documentation while trying stuff in Pro Tools. Anyone who's serious about learning it and using it efficiently should endeavor to do this. Otherwise, it's a lot of shooting in the dark and fumbling around. Just a suggestion. Cheers, Slau On Dec 5, 2014, at 10:58 AM, Michael Kuhlmann hallo-mich...@gmx.de wrote: Hi Slau, thank you very much first. It might be possible to use first letter navigation in cases like that but I'm not sure. I'll be looking into this in a couple of days and I'll let people know what I find. Question: Multiband Compression versus Dynamic Equalizer
Hi folks. I should know this but don't. What's the difference between a dynamic EQ whose bands only swing into action when a certain threshold is crossed, and a multiband compressor? To my brain at least, they seem to be the same thing. Chris -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Pro Tools Accessibility group. Re: Question: Multiband Compression versus Dynamic Equalizer
One difference I can think of is that every band on an EQ generally has a q control, which I can't remember seeing much if ever on a multiband comp... I want to say there's a difference between scooping a la EQ and gain reduction a la compressor, but apparently I'm too stupid to put it into words. Argh! Maybe there isn't? Re: Question: Multiband Compression versus Dynamic Equalizer
hahaha fun isn't it? There must be a difference, since iZotope Ozone 6 contains both. hmm a multiband comp could contain a width adjustment for the bands, which would be the same thing as Q. i haven't actually gotten it yet. Hopefully it's like Ozone 5 Advanced, where the individual modules can be used separately. Otherwise, we'll have a list of hundreds of parameters.
