a couple of flotools issues

2017-12-09 Thread John Covici
Hi. I am having a problem with flotools where it is very difficult to
double tap a command i.e. commane+f1 for instance. I have to tap very
quickly between the two taps -- any way to lengthen the time I have
between?

also, I got some speech this morning that said a flotools update was
available when I started pt, but then the dashboard window came up and
there was no way to download anything.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

assigning a plug-in/track parameter to a physical knob/fader

2017-12-09 Thread Roy
hi friends
what’s the most convenient way of assigning a plug-in or track parameter to a
physical controller on a midi control surface in ProTools 12.8.2? (am using
controllers by Novation and the uc-33E).
huge thanks for any input
Roy.

No worries. Years ago there was a product called "Pro Tools Free" which was an
older version and quite limited. Yes, these days it's Pro Tools First that
they're encouraging new users to try. It's also limited but in different ways.

Re: Free PT?

2017-12-09 Thread Slau Halatyn
Pro Tools First is based on Pro Tools but there are certain elements missing
which makes it less than ideal for blind users. I think there have been
improvements so it would probably be somewhat more effective and, all that
said, it might improve some more and that's probably Avid's intent. For now,
full version is best.

Here is a little snip that I pulled up, it wasn’t exactly what I read
yesterday, but gives the general idea.

“What do I Need to use UAD Plug-Ins With Console 1?

Apart from the Console 1, you need a UAD Accelerator (Satellite or UAD-2 PCIe
card) or an Apollo interface, and you need to own the Console 1 ready UAD

plug-in you want to use. With that in place, it's plug and play. The Console 1
system will automatically identify the Console 1 ready plug-ins (both UAD

and Softube) that are installed on your system, and they will be pre-mapped for
you. Just open them from within the Console 1 system and mix away”

The way the UAD software works wen last I used it, it installed all the UAD
plug ins, and used your authorization file to see which one are authorized to
your account. So even in Pro Tools, unless you sort through and hide the ones
you do not have authorizations for you will have to scroll through a lot of
plug ins to find the ones you want. When you load a plug in you don’t have an
authorization for it will prompt you to purchase it or authorize a demo ( a
process that is not accessible btw). I say that to say this. UAD has about 100
plug ins in their arsenal alone, So even if the Console one hardware had the
means of allowing one to choose a plug in to load to a blank slot in the UAD
console software, one would still have to cycle through a long list to select
the plug in to load. And if the UAD console software still shows up as blank to
VoiceOver, We still won’t be able to select plug ins since there will be no
spoken feedback. I’d love to be proven wrong here and have this all be
accessible, I still have plug ins collecting dust in my UAD account I’d like to
use. But unless the UAD console software is now visible to voiceover somewhat
(which btw anyone who has a UAD Apollo and running the latest version of the
software can answer) We are still in the same boat.

Very interesting. it is my newbee understanding with the Console Mark II that

If I am correct the Apollo has a free software download that allows greater
control by the Mark II. So the Mark II can be handled by listening and turning
knobs as you say. I feel there is something to this
controller-interface-software combination. However I might be as right as
wrong can be, dunno yet.

Really looking forward to finding out what Slau and Nate will learn from their

Yes the goal of the Console one (the hardware control surface) is so that
engineers won’t have to look at the screen. However in the UAD Console (the

would first need to use a mouse to select a blank plug

I'm not sure where the confusion is. I'm not talking about Flo Tools. I'm
answering your question about the free version of Pro Tools which is known as
Pro Tools First. It's less than ideal for accessibility. the full version of
Pro Tools is the more accessible route. Flo tools simply makes Pro Tools far
more efficient to use and speeds up workflow way beyond what using Pro Tools
alone offers blind users.

Don’t you mean “flotools” is still not ready?

I was trying to figure out which route to go myself, and I heard protools only
works with a MAC and I have a PC.

If I am correct the Apollo has a free software download that allows greater
control by the Mark II. So the Mark II can be handled by listening and turning
knobs as you say. I feel there is something to this
controller-interface-software combination. However I might be as right as
wrong can be, dunno yet.

Really looking forward to finding out what Slau and Nate will learn from their
contacts who have tested the Mark II with VO.

Yes the goal of the Console one (the hardware control surface) is so that
engineers won’t have to look at the screen. However in the UAD Console (the
software emulating a mixer interface for the UAD Apollo audio interface) one
would first need to use a mouse to select a blank plug in slot and load a plug
into said slot. Once a plug in is loaded and selected, One can use the Console
one (hardware control surface) to change the parameters in the loaded plug in.
Because they are adjusting the knobs from a hardware surface, they won’t have
to look at the screen and can close their eyes and adjust until things sound
right. Given that so far there is no VoiceOver support in the UAD Console

(the software emulating a mixer interface for the UAD Apollo audio interface)
we still have to figure out a way to get the plug in loaded into a blank slot
on a given channel , before we can start changing it’s
