Hello Slau and others!

Is it worth to install SD2 under Big Sur on a new Mac system or is there
something better out for our community.

Thanks and best! / Martin

Re: Superior Drummer? Omnisphere? Slate plugins?

2018-02-07 Thread Slau Halatyn
Yes, the VMR stuff is trickier. To me, the whole Gobbler thing is a nuisance
and, frankly, there's plenty of other stuff out there that does what Slate
plug-ins do so I'm no longer a user. I did it for a year and actually rarely
availed myself of their products during that time period. Don't get me wrong,
I'm not dissing their stuff it just doesn't do it for me.

There is a third party NKS database for Omnisphere 2 that you can
access via komplete kontrol via one of their kontrol compatible

RE: Superior Drummer versions

2017-11-30 Thread Phil Muir
Hey Pete. You can get the latest version of Superior Drummer 2 witch is
2.4.4 from the Toontrack website. Superior Drummer 3 is currently
inaccessible. Slau and I have made them aware of the issues and it's down
to the fact that they wrote SD3 using the Juce platform. Unfortunately
there is no accessibility API available in the Juce platform so unless this
is addressed in the future I can't see SD3 becoming accessible any time
soon.

Subject: Superior Drummer versions

Hi All,

I have SD 2 on DVD which I've been using under Windows.

When I try to install it on the Mac it refuses, saying  I need OS 10.4
or higher.  I'm actually running Sierra.  Question:  will the last
version of SD2 run under Sierra?   If so, then I guess I can get this
via the Product Manager.  If not, then from recent messages I see that
there are doubts about the accessibility of SD3, so in short, what's my
best option for SD with PT?

Best,

Peter

Hello Phil!

So I installed the first dvds.
To find SD2 in Pro Tools...
Do I have to copy the settings folder first.
Or do I have to change the path for the virtual instruments?
At the moment SD is not shown when instantiating an plug-in.
Or will SD become visible after registering?

Phil!

I just found some older II versions in the web.
Do you know, if the version II of Superior Drummer and the additional libraries
are High Siera ready?

Thanks! / Martin

Version 3 is out for the moment as they have migrated to the Juce platform
which at this point does not have an accessibility UI for Mac or Windows so
your best bet would be to use Superior Drummer 2 if you happen to have it.
No currently no accessibility at all for Superior Drummer 3 on the Mac or
Windows and most likely won't ever be unless we can get an accessibility API
built into the Juce platform. Rest assured Toontrack are aware of the issue
and want to address it. Put the Avatar routing below. Note: this is the

2017-10-16 Thread Martin (Punky) Sopart
Hi Slau and list!

At the moment I often use midi tracks to build up my drums.
The midi outputs are routed to an external drum modul.
And the audio output of this modul is routed back to Pro Tools.

In addition I also use instrument tracks with strike2.

Bad thing of the external drum modul is, that there is no way to control the
level of the single drum instruments.
It's only possible via the attack. And that changes the sound.
And I further habe to care about the delay compensation because of all that
routing.

Bad thing about Strike2 is, that there is no access to the single drum kits,
instruments and midi data of the available patterns.

Now I'm thinking about Superior or EZ drummer or what ever is the correct
combination.

Could someone explain the interrelations, requirements and implementation.

I want to be able to control the individual instrument levels at any time.
I want to be able to exchange e.g. the snare drum sound on the fly.
I want to be able to add and control effects like compression and reverb
without having to record before.

Thanks in advance and regards! / Martin

To add a bit of clarity. You could load up Superior Drummer 2 in Reaper
then audition the MIDI loops that way.

Just to add to this that although Pro Tools can't audition MIDI Loops
without importing them it looks like Reaper can so perhaps an alternative
method to audition all of the MIDI drum loops that ship with Superior could
be to load up Reaper and use that as an auditioning tool then load up the
ones you like into a PT session. Here's a video showing Reaper in action
doing this:

Hi Steve,

It's difficult to answer an "is it worth it" kind of question because it
involves "worth" which translates into money and not everybody thinks the
same in terms of dollars or whatever currency. Before I offer an opinion,
first let me say that Flo Tools offers access to UI elements within Superior
Drummer II which is the only version you can currently buy. While Superior
Drummer does have MIDI loops available, the browser is not currently
accessible. Therefore, one must program drums manually. Manual drum
programming is not for everyone and, even for those who do it, for some it
comes easy and for others it's somewhat time-consuming. If one knows how to
play drums or knows how drummers play, it's a fairly straight-forward matter
of playing parts on pads or keyboard. Superior Drummer comes with one
library and there are about a dozen other Superior Drummer libraries with
the letters SDX before the library name. Superior can also play Easy drummer
libraries of which there are dozens and those have an EZX in front of the
library name. Superior Drummer costs around $300 but it often goes on sale
for $199 or less and that includes the default Avatar library. The SDX
expansions cost around $150 each but they sometimes go on sale for half
price. The EZX libraries cost around $100 but also go on sale for half price
perhaps once a year or so.

So, all told, you might spend as little as $150 or as much as a thousand
dollars, depending on when and what you buy. It's hard to say whether it's
worth it. To me, it's undoubtedly the best sounding virtual drum library out
there. I've heard pretty much all of them and, while some are great, I think
Superior Drummer is a cut above. Now that it's fairly accessible in Pro
Tools, I think it's a great way to go if you're adept at programming drum
parts.

Long story short (and you'll have to fill in some blanks as I'm in a bit of
a rush right now), if you want to use Phil's multi-out routings:

Instantiate Superior on a stereo instrument track.

Use Control plus the arrow keys to navigate to the Load/Save menu and select
"Load."

Navigate to one of Phil's multi SD2 files and make sure it's a library that
you own and load it.

Create 15 stereo aux tracks.

Interact with the input of the first aux track and, with
Command+Option+Shift pressed, set it to Plug-In>Superior Drummer Insert
A>bus 3-4.

Now any sequence on the Instrument track will be split out to kick in, kick
out, sub kick, snare top, snare bottom, etc.

This is a very quick and dirty explanation but that's the basic story. Phil
might chime in with more of a description and possibly paste in the text of
the document he created explaining the routing and what's on each set of
busses.

Hi Joy,
To some extent, it's possible but things get quite complicated very quickly
when you're talking about a plug-in that hosts other plug-ins. That said, it's
something we're working on to expand.

2015-01-31 Thread CHUCK REICHEL
Hi Ricky,
Heres what I've done when I need the flexibility of midi & being able to change
drum kits later on.
With my V-pro kit & td-20 module I take all 8 outputs from the td20 directly
into audio tracks in pt & at the same time burn a midi track with the
performance "take".
When it comes time to mix in pt I then have the option of using the 8 audio
drum tracks from the td-20 or change the drum sounds and just print again!

YMMV

The way I use Logic drums is to do all the sequencing in PT and dump the midi
into logic. Select a producer kit, lock the tracks to audio, then bounce them
out as multitrack. You’ll get about 12 files, 1 for each microphone. The new
logic kits are absolutely fantastic and incredibly playable.
Import those files into Pro Tools, and you can mix it like a real kit.

That would be at best a waste of your time. I can say for sure from my previous
dialogues that the development team at Toontrack know what accessibility is,
and they aren't fussed about supporting it. Whether that'll change as new blood
trickles in, who knows, but right now don't expect effort on their part. Shame
really, I like most of their products.

Thanks Kevin.
I'm using it with Sonar. Is it really accessible in LogicX?
I'm interested.

It’s much more usable on the PC, but with the help of Auto Hotkey and hotspot
scripts.

The windows are completely invisible on the mac side unfortunately.

It’s too bad. Superior is a fantastic plug. This is one of the many reasons I
do all my composition on the PC side and dump audio into Pro Tools.
You’re probably better off buying strike, or buying logic pro X in order to use
their kits if you want to remain solely on the mac side.

Hello,

I know this is a little late but stay away from Superior Drummer.

When contacting the company asking about if it is accessible with VoiceOver
explaining about being a screen reader, the response I got back was voice
commands are not supported.

There is much I wanted to say in my reply but I thought I would be nice.

2015-01-31 Thread TheOreoMonster
We all had to learn, figure stuff out and ask questions at some point. As i
said i treat loops the same way i treat any other track audio. Thats the beauty
of it. So yes while we can’t see loop handles and drag them to extend them
with the mouse we can still select, copy and paste as many times as we need the
loop to extend. Also remember at the core Superior Drummer, Slate drums and
addictive drums and etc are samplers the companies ship with there Multi
Velocity Drum hits. If you can figure out how to get at the wav files, or get
a source of single hit libraries (and there are several out there) you can
still work with the stuff accessibly. Also plenty of Compressors,EQ’s, and
Reverbs etc out there that you don’t need to use the ones built into those
Drum Programmers.

Not sure how to do what part in particular? Audio and rex loops are generally
just regular audio files you can import into a project and edit/ manipulate
like you can any other project audio. It’s advantage is it has tempo data
embedded in the file so getting it to snap to project tempo or having the
project adjust to its tempo is a bit easier to do. However i will admit Pro
Tools makes this a bit more of a hassle than every other DAW on the market

like using any other drum programming soft synth out there.

That would be at best a waste of your time. I can say for sure from my
previous dialogues that the development team at Toontrack know what
accessibility is, and they aren't fussed about supporting it. Whether
that'll change as new blood trickles in, who knows, but right now
don't expect effort on their part. Shame really, I like most of their
products.

Re: Superior Drummer with ProTools

2015-01-30 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi,
So what drum library should one use now that you can’t get adpacks anymore to
Addictive drums 1 as of tomorrow and Addictive drums 2 doesn’t work?
Any hint?

Hello,

I know this is a little late but stay away from Superior Drummer.

When contacting the company asking about if it is accessible with VoiceOver
explaining about being a screen reader, the response I got back was voice
commands are not supported.

There is much I wanted to say in my reply but I thought I would be nice.

Re: Superior drummer or what else?

2013-04-22 Thread Kevin Reeves
Could you possibly send me the presets for Superior Drummer? I've got all the
sdx's and EZX's and would like to start experimenting with that.
Also, when I get the pt-access site up and running, I'll include it in the
preset repository when I get it up and rolling.

Thanks so much.

Hi,
Maybe a silly question, but do any of those plugins work like the old drum
machines, or ar they just sound banks that you trigger with your midi keyboard
and play in real time? If the later, is there a way to quantize drum tracks as
you make them or can you only do it afterwards?

You can also use "Strike," which is Avid's virtual drummer plug-in.

Re: Superior drummer or what else?

2013-04-13 Thread Eric Lambier
I have superior drummer and ProTools nine and it works awesome! I am totally
blinded by the way. What you have to do is have a sighted person put specific
drum kits into the library and menu as presets so you can read it. I've had to
do that with a number of different software programs I've bought for ProTools.
Cheers and good luck.
