I'm attempting a PR for this. Given how little I know about the autorequires stuff, I hope it ends up correct.

Jira (PUP-8067) Selector expression ignored in some scenarios

  Re: Selector _expression_ ignored in some scenarios

It does solve the problem, though I would personally argue that following other languages' standards in this case would be clearer, and code relying on this behavior is considerably harder to understand because of that and how the current behavior looks inconsistent. E.g.:

# This resolves the regex and returns a boolean, ignoring the selector

$value =~ /\d/ ? {

  default => 'non-numeric',

  true=> 'numeric',

}

# This resolves the selector first and compares a string against an Integer, causing a parse error

3 > 3 ? {

  default => 'less than or equal to three',

  true=> 'larger than three',

 Puppet Task Runner /  BOLT-52

  Pass arguments to scripts

Change By:

 Josh Cooper

Release Notes Summary:

 When using the "bolt script run" command, bolt will now pass arguments to the script. This is useful when running an existing script through bolt. Note arguments are not interpolated by the shell on the remote host, so if you run bolt command run myscript.sh 'echo $HOME', then the script will receive the argument 'echo $HOME' as opposed to the shell interpolated value.

Release Notes Summary:

 Adds a bolt command line option for specifying the default transport. This is useful on Windows, so that the "winrm" scheme does not need to be repeated for each node, and in combination with BOLT-122 makes the following possible: "bolt command run whoami --nodes=win{1,2,3}". The default transport can be overridden on a per-host basis, e.g. "bolt command run facter --nodes win1,ssh://linux --transport winrm"

Based on the synchronous method of stream reading implemented inside the Invoke-Interpreter helper within the embedded PowerShell code, a process that writes > 4k of data to stderr will deadlock the invocation.
Move to an event-based asynchronous output stream reading implementation that doesn't have this problem.

Is it the case that using parenthesis solves the problem for you, Trevor Robinson? If so I'm strongly in favour of documenting the current precedence more clearly and not changing the underlying behaviour, as there is a body of existing code that could change in subtle ways if we moved the precedence around.

hi Davin Hanlon - could you take a look at this, with an eye towards the future of metadata in modules? on one hand it seems good to support structured facts, but on the other hand the use of that metadata across the ecosystem is inconsistent and funky (e.g. we used to prevent download of modules if the target OS wasn't in the module's support matrix, but with r10k/puppetfiles that doesn't make much sense).

Now that Hiera 5 is out, there's support for eyaml lookups per hierarchy level. But although the eyaml backend is included, users still need to install the hiera-eyaml gem separately in order to make use of it. It'd be beneficial to include it as part of the packages, so things work out of the box.

Josh Cooper, question arises, is the fix in this ticket at fault or should the acceptance tests change? I was under the impression that the acceptance tests actually did change at some point (the PR was reverted for that reason once before and then merged in again). If the acceptance tests are at fault, is there a ticket for that?

While removing legacy facts from my personal modules I found that I still have to use them in metadata.json at least according to https://puppet.com/docs/puppet/5.3/modules_metadata.html It would be nice to be able to use structured facts in the operatingsystem_support section.
For example, to be able to replace this

Using a pre-release version of puppet-agent at SHA 24404da containing puppet at SHA d9e742a, this passes manual validation on Solaris 11 x86_64.
Based on Michael Smith's reproduction case above, the following interaction illustrates that puppet now successfully creates a zfs instance where it previously failed.

What is specified is: Giving an attribute value of undef to a resource means that the default value for that attribute should be used.

That's fine, but I'd also like to be able so pass false to say "don't do this". I'm not trying to overload what undef is. I want some way to say (for example) that the parameter is [some,array,of,things] + false and it does not seem straightforward to do that at all.

I guess that I don't really see what the point of Optional is if it's so difficult to make an optional parameter. I don't think that a user should have to jump through hoops to do what seems like a straightforward task.

Optional[Foo] $bar = anything

Jira (PUP-8101) Optional[] data type doesn't allow a parameter to be disabled

  Re: Optional[] data type doesn't allow a parameter to be disabled

I do not want to change Optional to include a Boolean true as that would create ambiguities. (To pick just one, how would you handle an Optional[Boolean])? I can imagine implementing constraints on the Boolean type to model Boolean[true] and Boolean[false] separately. This has come up before.
As suggested, you can use an array or hash for the parameter - you could for instance do this:

# array with an undef in it as special

class myclass(Variant[Tuple[Undef,1,1],String] $param) { ... }

class { myclass: param => [undef] }

# empty array as special

class myclass(Variant[Array[0,0],String] $param) { ... }

class { myclass: param => [] }

Unfortunately, it is difficult to deal with this problem without removing the current design decision ("undef means default") when also being constrained by not using rich data values as parameters. When rich data is allowed, there are many more options.

This is per design in the Puppet Language. (It is also something I wanted to change but that would cause too much breakage).
What is specified is: Giving an attribute value of undef to a resource means that the default value for that attribute should be used.
The only way that this can be overridden is by binding undef to the parameter in hiera.

John O'Connor, the failing Jenkins run for this ticket has been deleted. Can you attach the full log of a failing run exhibiting this issue to the ticket? Thanks.

The PAL API should have a general call_function.
The motivation for this was originally to be allow Bolt CLI to call run_task, but it seems better to allow calling any function.
