I have some questions (concerns) around having PuppetServer obtaining tokens from Vault and letting agents grab them from it (one of the options proposed) as it kinda defeats the purpose customers want to use Vault for (where you want to keep access to secrets to intended parties only). I have some thoughts on what we (Puppet) can/should do about agents authenticating to Vault and/or obtaining tokens that I noted in above ticket (but will add some more soon). And same q's around whether to use our HTTP Client or their ruby client. My somewhat uninformed and gut feeling was to use the former (else it would be one more http client to manage etc). Of course the later has some advantages and it provides some abstracted level of functionality and can keep up with changing Vault API specs. No strong preferences. I did verify that Vault can work with Puppet CA issued certificates fine. However, in order to avoid extra gem dependencies that aren't needed for most users, we don't have a dependency on net-ssh-krb in the bolt gem, and instead instruct users to install it themselves if they need it. Now that many users are adopting the puppet-bolt package, installing the net-ssh-krb gem is no longer especially straightforward. Also, there's less benefit to having fewer gem dependencies. The port was completely rejecting connection attempts. A can get Windows working with https://github.com/nahi/httpclient/pull/388. For now we can fix it by patching the gem in packaging.
