We upgraded from 3.2.0 to 3.2.3 and apparently that included some ActiveMQ/KahaDB format changes. It started trying to read through the "backlog", got a whole bunch of exceptions and then entered maintenance mode. Even after restarting PuppetDB it would just flip into maintenance mode. The only thing we could do was stop PuppetDB, clear out all the log files and start PuppetDB again. Periodically, the KabaDB scheduler directory (/var/lib/puppetdb/mq/localhost/scheduler) fills up with log files. The logs are full of entries like and the log files never vanish:
