Jira (PUP-1062) Add virtualenv support to the pip package provider
Title: Message Title Samuele Kaplun commented on PUP-1062 Re: Add virtualenv support to the pip package provider I was wondering if the Package type can be extended with a new property such as installation_prefix or better naming. This is because finally a virtualenv for pip is nothing but specifying a root tree from which to find the pip executable and where packages are going to be installed, and similarly this could be extended for Ruby's gems, or for NodeJS's modules. Title: Message Title Jason Antman commented on PUP-1062 Re: Add virtualenv support to the pip package provider Just wanted to update... still working towards an OSS policy. Apparently it's with general counsel now, so hopefully some action on it soon. Assuming it's approved, our virtualenv module should be the first project released. Title: Message Title Jason Antman commented on an issue Re: Add virtualenv support to the pip package provider We (my employer) have a module that has types and providers for virtualenvs and pip-installed packages within them, that was developed by one of the pypa (pip/virtualenv) maintainers. We're currently working on getting it open sourced (we don't have an OSS policy yet, so it's a big discussion with management, legal, etc.). When that finally happens, it'll be published to the forge and I'll update here. Jira (PUP-1062) Add virtualenv support to the pip package provider
Title: Message Title Jason Antman commented on an issue Re: Add virtualenv support to the pip package provider There isn't. I did some work on this, and ended up giving up on it. I don't think it's feasible, at least not without some major changes to the package type and provider. For our internal use, we've developed a virtualenv module with its own types that handle this... I'm working on trying to get it released, but we've been caught up in a corporate legal mire for ages.
