Title: Message Title Drew Blessing commented on an issue Re: Puppet Packages should be built to support Ruby 1.9 from Software Collections. With RHEL7 shipping now it would be a great opportunity for PuppetLabs to make sure new packages are flexible. Please support at LEAST software collections Ruby 2.1 in RHEL7, but if possible make it flexible enough to use a non-software collection package, too. Add Comment Puppet / PUP-1112 Puppet Packages should be built to support Ruby 1.9 from Software Collections. Many RHEL/CentOS users wish to move to Ruby 1.9 but without having to roll their own environment and repackage all Puppet packages. The Fedora Software Collections gives us this capability and I would like to request that a set of packages be rolled to support Ruby from SC. https://fedorahosted.org/SoftwareCollections/ This message was sent by Atlassian JIRA (v6.1.4#6159-sha1:44eaede) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Bugs" group. Title: Message Title Drew Blessing commented on an issue Re: Puppet Packages should be built to support Ruby 1.9 from Software Collections. Michael Stahnke In regard to your comments in Redmine - I agree that RHEL 6 and Ruby 1.8.7 on that platform are secure and stable and have a long support life ahead of them. However, we are now running into issues similar to those described by other commenters. It's not that Puppet doesn't run fine on Ruby 1.8.7, it's that the ecosystem of gems we use is moving forward. Many gems are supported by one or two devs who support the gems in their free time. Supporting multiple Ruby versions is a tax on them and they also want to take advantage of new features. I have a set of custom providers that I cannot implement right now because a gem I need has dependencies that are not available in 1.8.7. I hope you and PuppetLabs will consider packaging to support SCL Ruby versions in the future. Thanks for your consideration. Title: Message Title Dan Bode commented on an issue Re: Puppet Packages should be built to support Ruby 1.9 from Software Collections. One more reason this would be nice. Many Puppet modules depend on external gems for type and providers. As time goes by, the latest version of less of these gems will work with 1.8.7.
