Title: Message Title Geoff Williams commented on PUP-7191 Re: Puppet errors when managing non-existent service on AIX Moses Mendoza Your right - sorry but I made a mistake in the testcase, it should indeed have been ensure stopped, enable false which DOES work correctly on Solaris 10 (I had the correct testcase on Solaris 11). Sorry for the noise. Starting a non-existant service is of-course an error and should always be reported as such Add Comment This message was sent by Atlassian JIRA (v6.4.14#64029-sha1:ae256fe) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Bugs" group. Title: Message Title Moses Mendoza commented on PUP-7191 Re: Puppet errors when managing non-existent service on AIX Hey Geoff Williams strictly speaking, does that case differ slightly from the AIX one? We seem to have settled on treating non-existent services as effectively stopped and disabled already when ensuring they are stopped and disabled (this is what we are fixing in AIX), ie: [root@centos7 ~]# puppet apply -e " service { 'bar' : ensure => stopped, enable => false } " Notice: Compiled catalog for centos7.localdomain in environment production in 0.07 seconds Notice: Applied catalog in 0.26 seconds [root@centos7 ~]# echo $? 0 But attempting to start a non-existent service, or attempting to enable a non-existent service, should display an error (and should adhere to puppet's detailed exit codes rules).. This is currently true on RHEL 7, ubuntu, and other service providers: Note exit 0, indicating puppet considers this a successful run, as well as error output from the provider's failure: [root@centos7 ~]# puppet apply -e " service { 'bar' : ensure => running } " Notice: Compiled catalog for centos7.localdomain in environment production in 0.07 seconds
