If an Object type is created with an unresolved parent type, this causes an unnamed anonymous class to be created which in turn results in the error an undefined error.
This error should normally never happen since the fact that the parent type is unresolved will be trapped by the evaluator. In order to this to happen, the unresolved parent must first be cloaked by having a string resolved into a TypeReference. Example:
$ bundle exec puppet apply -e 'notice(Object[{name => "Bar", parent => Type("Foo")}].new)'
Error: Evaluation Error: Error while evaluating a Method call, undefined method `sub' for nil:NilClass at line 1:54 on node localhost
