[Puppet Users] 3.8.5 Master with 3.7.2 Agents
Hi, background here is that I want to use both Master and agents from the Debian repo. The Master runs on Jessie (3.8.5 from the backports), and some agents still on wheezy (3.7.2 from the backports). This is not a new install, but rather an intermediate upgrade to the last Puppet 3 version, before moving on to 4 and Puppet Server. Is anybody aware of issues with 3.8.5 Master and 3.7.2 Agents? Is there any reason why I should not be running this setup for a while? Cant see anything pressing from the release notes.. [Puppet Users] Migration to PuppetDB and Apache/Passenger setup
Hi, I'm in the process of planning a Puppet Upgrade. The current setup uses the ActiveRecord functionality/gem to connect to a MySQL DB for stored configs, exported resources. I'm reading in the Puppet 4 Release Notes that support for ActiveRecord is removed. Is there any standard way to export and import the existing data from MySQL to PuppetDB? The current Puppet version is still 2.7, but will be upgraded to 3.8 before the switch to PuppetDB. Lastly, are there any packages for Puppet 4 available to use in a APache/passenger setup? I'm running Debian, and from Puppetlabs it looks everything is for PuppetServer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. [Puppet Users] Re: Upgrading Puppet from 2.7 to 4
Thanks to everyone for the comments! I think I first need to do some preliminary testing in order to assess the quality of the code and to see what the real challenges are, and to ultimately decide on a strategy, ie upgrade vs transition/migration. Ramin K: OS of the Master is Debian Wheezy. Have you actually done the upgrade? Andrew Grimberg: This approach in fact sounds as if its the best way, considering also what Henrik says below about new versions/modules/tooling/practices. But it sounds like a massive amount of work, particularly since we do not have any unit tests or similar in place. Did you have any unit tests in place with the old code, or if not are you implementing them with the new code? [Puppet Users] Upgrading Puppet from 2.7 to 4
Hi, I'm fairly new to Puppet and have been given the project of upgrading an existing Puppet 2.7 site (Puppetmaster with Apache/Passenger, and MySQL for exported resources, with hundreds of clients), possibly to Puppet 4. Just wanted to ask around if anybody has got experience with such an upgrade. Reading the docs it says that skipping major versions isn't recommended, so I guess I'd have to first upgrade to 3.x? Are there anymore upgrade docs for 2.7 to 3.x available? Many thanks, Chris -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Puppet Users" group.
