Blender is the main one.
Long learning curve though.

Is there an extension to Inkscape
to make it a flash/flipbook style
tool?

i like luciole it's in the Ubuntu repo... the  main use is for stop motion
but it works with images too... where ktoon and pencil are still a bit to
buggy for me.
luciole has heaps of cool functions like export into cinelerra and soon they
will add sound.
