Re: [pydotorg-www] [Webmaster] Telkom University Join to be public mirror

2020-01-20 Thread Steve Holden
Hi Hanang,

Thanks for your inquiry.

The PSF no longer publishes any information about public mirroring sites:
there were many administrative issues and we felt they tended to divert
traffic away from python.org and towards other sites of unknown quality.
For these reasons the PSF has invested significantly in its Internet
presence in recent years. Our third-party content delivery network is
intended to provide low latency to all locations, so I am a little
surprised to learn that local mirroring would seem attractive.

Many sites have established local caching of the PyPI site, and this is a
perfectly acceptable use of the data. Again, we would not expect to
advertise the presence of such sites as public resources.

If you feel that the performance of python.org resources is insufficient in
your area I can certainly put you in touch with operations staff to address
the issues you are experiencing. I have copied them on this email for
information.

Kind regards,
Steve

Sorry, no one was available to add the event in time.
I've now added it in retrospect and hope the event was a great
success !

Re: [pydotorg-www] [Webmaster] Python success stories

2020-01-20 Thread Margriet Komrij
Dear Python.org Web Maintainers,

I hope you are doing well. I hope you have received my enquiry from your
webmaster collegues. If not I will write below what my question is.
We as beslist.nl have been implementing Python for about
fifteen years now. I have learned from our technical department that we are
happy using Python for data-analyses and machine learning. That is why we
wondered if it is possible to team up and name our collaboration on the success
stories page? https://www.python.org/success-stories/
We would be happy to let python.org visitors know what
Python does for us. I will explain a bit more about us and where Python is
helping beslist.nl. We are a big online ‘marketplace’ in the
Netherlands, there are around 10.000 web shops enclosed on our website. This
means we have more than millions of items online on our website. Python helps
us with making all the data manageable. On our database we use machine learning
models from Python libraries, this ‘data’ output is processed in other systems
that we use for our backend. Our programmers told me they find Python very
useful for this.
I think we would be a great addition tot he sucess stories page as we are a big
name in the Netherlands and in Belgium. Our website has 12 million visitors on
our website each month. Next to that our Worldwide Alexa Rank is: 28.175 (see:
https://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/beslist.nl). Of course we are willing to pay for
a mention on the success stories page.
I am curious what you think about it, would you be interested in putting our
testimonial on your website? If you are interested, we can discuss together
further how our mention on the success stories page will look like. Of course,
I can ask one of our programmers to join me to explain more about the usage of
Python in our company.
I look forward to your response. Have a nice day!

Hi Margriet,

I'm forwarding this message to the web maintainers, who ought to be able to put
you in touch with the Success Stories' editor. In the event that you need
further help, please don't hesitate to ask at webmaster again.

Kind regards,
Steve Holden
