[pydotorg-www] Editing Python Wiki (username KevinPayravi)

2024-08-21 Thread Kevin Payravi
Hi there! I just joined the Python Wiki and am interested in contributing.
My username (and real name) is KevinPayravi (https://kevin.payravi.dev/).

I'm a software developer who does work on a few Python projects, and I have
been a longtime editor on many wikis, including Wikipedia (where my
username is SuperHamster).

Right now, I'm mostly interested in creating redirects to help users more
easily find relevant content (e.g. redirecting PEP8 to PythonStyle,
redirecting the names of persistence tools to the PersistenceTools list,
etc.).

Thanks,
Kevin

And probably a couple more on the same line (I'll check other editors to see if

I've added you as an editor. It would be great, if could also edit/update some
other pages in the wiki, not just to promote your company.

Thanks.

We usually look for a particular proposal ("I would like to edit Foo because

think you could improve? (there's lots that needs work, that's not the point: usually,

Are you referring to the python.org wiki and want to become

We normally only give editing rights to people who want to contribute
to the wiki, not only to have them edit their user page.

I want to edit the table in section "Special-purpose tools" on page

code, but I didn't find anything about attaching using GDB (or otherwise
injecting code to an unprepared live python process) in pystuck's code,
documentation and commit history. So I thought  that sentence "Uses GDB
to inject code" about "pystuck" is wrong and I wanted to remove it from
pystuck's table row.

[pydotorg-www] editing https://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonSpeed/PerformanceTips

2020-03-07 Thread Emery Berger
Hi,

I'd like to edit this to update some stuff (there are broken links, and
outdated packages), as well as to include a reference to Scalene, a Python
profiler I developed that offers a number of useful advantages over other
profilers.

Thanks,
-- emery (Scalene developer, among many other things)

>From https://github.com/emeryberger/scalene:

Scalene is a high-performance CPU *and* memory profiler for Python that
does a few things that other Python profilers do not and cannot do. It runs
orders of magnitude faster than other profilers while delivering far more
detailed information.

   1. Scalene is *fast*. It uses sampling instead of instrumentation or
relying on Python's tracing facilities. Its overhead is typically no more
   than 10-20% (and often less).
   2. Scalene is *precise*. Unlike most other Python profilers, Scalene
performs CPU profiling *at the line level*, pointing to the specific
lines of code that are responsible for the execution time in your program.
This level of detail can be much more useful than the function-level
   profiles returned by most profilers.
   3. Scalene separates out time spent running in Python from time spent in
native code (including libraries). Most Python programmers aren't going to
optimize the performance of native code (which is usually either in the
Python implementation or external libraries), so this helps developers
focus their optimization efforts on the code they can actually improve.
   4. Scalene *profiles memory usage*. In addition to tracking CPU usage,
Scalene also points to the specific lines of code responsible for memory
growth. It accomplishes this via an included specialized memory allocator.

Below is a table comparing the performance of various profilers to Scalene:

ProfilerTimeSlowdown
*original program* 6.71s 1.0x
cProfile 11.04s 1.65x
Profile 202.26s 30.14x
pyinstrument 9.83s 1.46x
line_profiler 78.0s 11.62x
pprofile *(deterministic)* 403.67s 60.16x
pprofile *(statistical)* 7.47s 1.11x
yappi *(CPU)* 127.53s 19.01x
yappi *(wallclock)* 21.45s 3.2x
py-spy 7.25s 1.08x
memory_profiler *> 2 hours* >1000x
scalene *(CPU only)* 6.98s 1.04x
scalene *(CPU + memory)* 7.68s 1.14x

2019-12-19 Thread Neal McBurnett
Hello, esteemed python wiki maintainers!

I'm Login Name: NealMcBurnett

I created my wiki.python account back in 2007 as I recall, but haven't used it
since 2013, so I just
reset my password.

I saw some out-of-date info at https://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonInMusic and
wanted to fix it.

I've used wikis since hearing about them from their inventor, Ward Cunningham.
I'm a regular editor since 2002 at Wikipedia
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Nealmcb) and much more.

Please add me to https://wiki.python.org/moin/EditorsGroup

Thanks!
