[Pythonmac-SIG] import sip problem (Universal Mac 2.4.3) and build options

2006-04-23 Thread Adam Tenderholt
I'm trying to get sip and PyQt working with Universal MacPython 2.4.3.
It compiles fine however trying to import sip results in the error:
"ImportError: Inappropriate file type for dynamic loading". I posted
on the PyKDE/PyQt/sip mailing list, and it was suggested that I try to
reconfigure and rebuild Python-2.4.3 with:

DYNLOADFILE=dynload_shlib.o ./configure --enable-framework
--enable-toolbox-glue --enable-shared

Unfortunately, I get the following error during make:

/usr/bin/ld: warning Python.framework/Versions/2.4/Python cputype (18,
architecture ppc) does not match cputype (7) for specified -arch flag:
i386 (file not loaded)
/usr/bin/ld: Undefined symbols:
_PyMac_Error
_Py_Main
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

I've looked online for the options used to compile Universal
MacPython, but I haven't had any luck. Is there a someplace I should
be looking?

Thanks,

Adam

Okay, this is kind of goofy, but might work. The second image is the
"drop" state. Check out the zip to see it in action.

Goofy isn't necessarily a bad thing;-)

As ling as you are convinced you want a grinder over a _blender_
(hint;-), then...
That one is nicely done.d

Nice looking, but unrecognizable and impractical at small sizes. Even
at full size, I had to stare at it for a few seconds before I
recongized what it was trying to depict. The dropping action at a
small size (say 32x32) looks like something kicking out, rather than a
handle turning.

What about something more like the Help Indexer in /Developer/
Applications/Utilities. A little more stylized and less
photorealistic. Should look better at smaller sizes.

Yeah, building on Brendan Simons' idea of what a Help Indexer-esque
Applet Builder.app icon should look like, here's what I've come up with:

http://hcs.harvard.edu/~jrus/python/prettified-py-icons.png

Sadly, the grinder isn't destined for glory. (I agree that it's not so
great at small sizes, or even at 128x128, but at full size it's fun to
drop stuff on :-)

Even better than a blender though I suppsoe there will be a lot of comments on the angle of the output of the app icon etc.Me? I'll probably rarely see it and it fine right now for me IMHO.___

Sorry to rain on your parade :-) The new icon looks great.

Can these icons (and their source Photoshop files, etc.) be checked
into some Subversion repository, so they can continue to be developed?
I'd hate to see someone else have to start from scratch in the event
new Mac OS X icons need to be produced.

Ok, the fork is in.

P.S. two of the icons have drop states.
