This kind of tree wide changes tend to break often if not merged quickly and leaving old infrastructure around till 2.13 doesn't look like good idea as someone will copy it and queued for 2.13 tree well be broken again. So I'd prefer if you'd send fixed up pull request instead of dropping patches.
