IMO bug fix as it can stop some new GPS working correctly.

[Qgis-developer] Backport of bugfix/feature for GPS compatibility

2016-05-17 Thread Larry Shaffer
Hi,

I would like to backport the following commit to the release-2_14 branch
(adds compatibility for some GPS units in mobile devices):
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/commit/88bddb8

The issue is that it has been classified as both a bug fix and a feature:
Bug report: http://hub.qgis.org/issues/13330
Feature request: http://hub.qgis.org/issues/12980
Feature PR: https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/pull/2867

Any objections to backporting it?

Re: [Qgis-developer] [Qgis-community-team] Moving the install instructions to a more sexy, visible, coherent and translatable page in qgis.org

2016-05-17 Thread Richard Duivenvoorde

Personally I'm ok with moving to rst / docs with the following arguments:
- it can be translated
- it is easier searchable (google)
- it will hopefully kept uptodate by more people because they try the
instructions and report back

Only reason NOT doing it was because in an earlier hackfest (when I
already put them to rst), I thought Juergen told me something about
scripts which kept the files uptodate.

IF only the apt-get lines are truely updated in that way, I'm ok with
moving.

Plz others speak out.

Regards,

Richard

[Qgis-developer] is it possible to use virtual fields that depend on other virtual fields for styling and labeling?

2016-05-17 Thread Janneke van Dijk

Dear list,

First, I'm not sure this is a question for the user list or the
developer list so I send it to both.

In the attached project with test shapefile I have a shapefile with
three virtual fields (integers). The first two virtual fields (vTest and
vTest2) contain expressions to assign integers, the third virtual field
(vTest3) multiplies the values of vTest and vTest2. I can use vTest and
vTest2 in Styles and in Labels, but not vTest3. In styles it will not
categorise, and the labels will just not show in the map. The values
show correctly in the attribute table and with the information tool.

Is it a bug? Does anyone else have this issue? I'm using today's nightly
build on Windows 7. As a work around I can create a non virtual field
and use the field calculator to set the values to the values in vTest3.

kind regards,
Janneke

Not sure if Bas knows if there is a chance that those qt5 version will
come into Jessie. But I understand Jurgen also has been busy to create

normal

installation there is a solution too.

The Qt packages are highly unlikely to be backported to jessie.

For the qt5 build of the Debian package maintained by the Debian GIS
team, I'm using the Python 2 dependencies for Qt5 which seem to work
quite nicely.

Hi Janneke, you are right. The simplification process is executed just

You can disable the simplification of a layer from its options menu ->
properties -> rendering -> uncheck the "simplify geometry" CheckBox.
Or you can disable the simplification by default from -> settings ->
options -> rendering -> uncheck the "Enable feature simplification by
default ..." CheckBox.

This pull request moves the simplification just when the geometry is
rendered, the geometry remains unchanged from the data source in order
to avoid these problems.

Hi Alvaro,

How do I disable the on-the-fly simplification?
Do I understand it correctly that the error causes problems with a
virtual field with a geometry calculation in it? Would that also be
solved by disabling on-the-fly simplification? Or should I avoid the
issues by not making it a virtual field - if I know that the polygons
won't be edited?

Thanks for your insights,
Janneke

But it is pending to merge, It needs to fix some tests to be accepted

Meanwhile you can disable the on-the-fly simplification of the layer.

Dear list,

Using QGIS 2.14.2 on Windows 7 I get the following error message when
zooming out on a shapefile layer that has labels switched on:

GEOS
Exception: IllegalArgumentException: Invalid number of points in
LinearRing found 3 - must be 0 or >= 4

It seems to be an old bug (https://hub.qgis.org/issues/9375) that was
fixed 2 years ago.

It doesn't seem to cause any problems otherwise. Anyone else have this
issue? Should I file a new bug report?

Ah thanks for the answer.

Yes, I'm pretty sure I have -DENABLE_QT5=ON, though I use ccmake. I also
tried cmake now (see below for full command + output used).

But crux indeed is that for qca and libqwt, that apparently not have
install candidates in a clean Debian Stable. See below for current
status of those in different Debians.

Next try will then be on compiling on Debian testing...

My point is I just try to be able to compile/install/test from source on
a (if possible) vanilla Debian (be it Jessie or Wheezy is both ok for me).

So: testing/Wheezy will be next for me!
