Re: [Qgis-developer] New Symbology / OSM/ ICONS

2011-02-21 Thread kimaidou
Hi Mayeul and devs,

Mayel, I had a look at your wiki page which describes how to get and use OSM
data. I think you should speak a bit more about pre-processed shapefiles, as
it is much easier for people with no server/time/skills to open a shapefile
in Qgis than setting up a complete OSM postgresql/postgis database.

I know all the tags are not in the shapefiles, but it is a good start. See
the small qgis mapserver rendering with these shapefiles :
http://demo.3liz.fr/qgismapserver/

By, the way, I am also looking for icons to render the rich OSM poi
database, (http://demo.3liz.fr/osminterest/ ) and asked the creator of the
SJJB icons to create some more. I gave him a list 2 days ago, and he told me
he would spend some times to work on it in the coming weeks.

I will let you know when I get some information.

 Icons are available here:
 http://www.mediafire.com/?344x43313q3xx8n

They are meant to be used with the tutorial here:
 http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Using_OpenStreetMap_data

I was hoping to find something without restrictions and if possible
 dedicated to open source material.
I could not find it here:
 http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/OSGeo_map_symbol_set

There is http://www.openclipart.org (which supports multiple uploads,
collections and packages) but I cannot upload a zipped file, hence I
cannot reproduce the folder structure required for qgis to find the
 right files.
So I've put the icons I'm using on mediafire:

 osm_icons4qgis_v1.zip
(If I do not login often enough, this might be destroyed).

All the icons that either SJJB or myself created are copyright free
(CC-0). I do not know the status of the others (mostly, the others are
 preinstalled with qgis).

Hi,
I have added (on the wiki) some comments and a link to the 3liz.com demo
and blog about the qgis mapserver rendering based on shapefiles.
