Hi Map packages include a map document (.mxd) and the data referenced by the map layers packaged into one portable file. It's about sharing ArcGIS data with styling. So, there are two parts: 1. a prorietary data format and 2. a prorietary styling. Actually, we've proposed a similar thing for QGIS called QGIS All-in-one Project and began to implement a plugin [1]. It's well-defined and based on open formats. Hi Zoltan, You are right. The two formats are incompatible - and there is no documentation of ArcGIS file formats available. If you know documentation about the ArcGIS Map package format (is this different from mxd?) there would be hope.
