The approximate reprojection is only used if the approximation can be
calculated with a error under certain threshold, for example for
rendering on screen, with an error less than screen pixel size.

I guess absolutely no.

The mix in the same maps of
data reprojected with lost precision
and data not reprojected
will produce wrongly maps.
