Use this URL:

https://ows.sobr.geosys.ru/2500/RU/2004/scan

and it should work.

The legend shows up ("Russia geological map 1:2.5M, 2004),
but the getmap takes some time to respond.

It's actually unrelated to projection. You CAN'T change the ellipsoid
used by a projection, at least without creating your own custom
projection.

The ellipsoid settings in project properties are only utilised for
area/length calculations, not transformations.
So the next question would be - way back in a past life I worked with
mapping at Fossil/Nuclear Plants and some had custom grids - no
projection just a 0,0 and then everything was on a grid. In that case
would it be acceptable to do "none/planimetric" when working on a
project like that? No projection - just a grid.

I'd have to reload an older version - but it seems like before 3.10 (I'm
on linux and was trailing on proj versions) that when I loaded some 2274
data the ellipsoid was coming in wrong (not GRS80 and I can't remember
what it was pulling in). In the testing this weekend it's coming in
correctly (3.14) if I start out with a new profile etc etc - which
further fueled the "I'm doing this wrong" line of thought.

So I'd say the bug is qgis/proj allowing transforms to/from a
LCC-but-no-ellipsoid CRS. And maybe qgis allowing
2274-but-no-ellipsoid is a bug too.

That's a great question - somehow I became convinced this was right.
Mostly it resulted from a job I was doing for a forester - the area
calculations from ellipsoid were coming out larger than it should have
been. Planimetric put me close to what was "right". I started doubting
this was right a few weeks ago wrestling with the "ballpark transform"
error message.

Now I'm getting a
ballpark transformation message if I move data from 2274 to 4326 (for
instance I'm moving points to a GPX Format).BUT - if I set the
Ellipsoid to be GRS 1980 (which it is for that projection) - no warning.

Can you open a ticket on this and attach your data? It's quite
possible that the warning is correct, but it's also possible it's a
spurious warning and I can hide it in this circumstance.

I can!

Which now has me thinking MAYBE I should set the ellipsoid. EXCEPT
my area measurements always come out a bit larger than expected.

Which **IS** expected! :D An ellipsoidal area will almost always
result in a larger area vs a cartesian area calculation, because it's
calculating the area over a curved surface rather than a flat surface.
(same applies to length measurements).

Generally my advice is to use ellipsoidal area/length calculations,
unless the specific constraints and specifications of a particular
task or discipline dictate otherwise. If in doubt, I'd:

1. compare the two area calculation results. The identify tool
"derived attributes" section handily shows BOTH cartesian and
ellipsoidal areas/lengths, if you've setup your project to use an
ellipsoid. If the results are relatively similar (e.g. say within 0.1%
of each other), then ask yourself whether it makes any difference
practically which of them you use. Chances are the accuracy of your
input datasets will be a bigger factor here then the area calculation
method used, and you may be chasing false accuracy by reporting areas
to that many significant figures anyway! Or, in other cases, the
actual purpose of the calculations you're making aren't even required
to a degree of accuracy to warrant being affected by the choice!
(e.g. if you're calculating species density, then it's an inherent
estimate only and the practical outcome of choosing between
cartesian/ellipsoidal calculations is nill).
I'm really starting to wonder if this started back at 3 (in my head) and
I've continued down the wrong path since then. Maybe it was a bug or
something in the beginning and I never adjusted based on everything
getting fixed. Maybe. I really don't have a good answer.

2. if you've checked and the input datasets ARE sufficiently accurate
that the choice matters, then push the choice back to your customer.
Ask them which method is suitable for the results they're after. Get
the answer in writing and your method is justified!

3. keep in mind that even ellipsoidal measurements are an estimation.
The earth isn't an ellipsoid! Local variations in elevation are likely
to have a much more significant impact on large scale calculations vs
the cartesian/ellipsoidal choice.

Hope that helps!
Yes - it helps. I'm getting a lot of questions from people getting
"ballpark transform" messages which led to the last little bit of
testing, head scratching, and "Hey I can be completely wrong on what I'm
doing".

Nyall

So I go
back to "none/planimetric".BUT - is that causing issue with
reprojecting data

Any thoughts? Thanks for any support or pointing me in a direction.

So there is an implicit:

when calculating length between two points, first convert them to some
  geodetic CRS (chosen how?)

then use the configured ellipsoid to do the calculations, based on the
  two sets of lat/lon

?

Why is it useful/sound for someone to set an ellipsoid which is not the
ellipsoid used by the project CRS?

Puoi verificare utilizzando:

where qgis_process

[Qgis-user] reproduced in dev. version - was Re: graphical modeler, field calculator, NULL result but no error report

2020-07-13 Per discussione James Powell

I am able to reproduce this behavior in the development version of qgis.

As a consequence, I opened two issues:

"Python call to --processing.run('qgis:fieldcalculator'-- fails to catch
divide by zero"

"nonsense code causes infinite regress in error reports"

(https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/37739).  Both have since been
tagged as "Bug + Processing + Modeller".

I learned along the way from a comment in the qgis core source code that
the syntax of the language for the FORMULA argument, which I think is
called "Processing", is SQL or SQL-ish by design.

Hi there everybody,

I am finding that the first field calculator call, which produces
'dbgfieldcalc',

gives only NULL answers.

The second field calculator call (at the bottom, which produces
'dbgfishnetFinal')

does almost the same thing and it works great.

At no time will running this model produce errors.  In fact, even
changing attribute names to be invalid attribute names doesn't produce
an error at all.

What I expect:
- That the field calculator is able to consistently run simple
expressions through.
- That feeding invalid attribute names causes an error report and
aborts the model run.

I've read through the docs that show up for a search on "qgis-user
field calculator".

The python code produced for this model reads
:  # Field calculator
: alg_params = {
: 'FIELD_LENGTH': 10,
: 'FIELD_NAME': 'emissionsAfterFishnetInGramPerHour',
: 'FIELD_PRECISION': 3,
: 'FIELD_TYPE': 0,
: 'FORMULA': 'attribute($currentfeature,
\'emissionsingramsperhour\') * attribute($currentfeature,
\'xlength_2\') / attribute($currentfeature, \'length\')',

: 'INPUT': outputs['AddGeometryAttributes']['OUTPUT'],
: 'NEW_FIELD': True,
: 'OUTPUT': parameters['Dbgfieldcalc']
: }
: outputs['FieldCalculator'] =
processing.run('qgis:fieldcalculator', alg_params, context=context,
feedback=feedback, is_child_algorithm=True)

: results['Dbgfieldcalc'] = outputs['FieldCalculator']['OUTPUT']
where "xlength_2" is a nonexistent attribute (but the script has the
same behavior when I use

"length_2", which is an existent attribute).

Is it usual to not detect errors like this?  Is there some reason the
expression I
wrote (with the proper attribute name) wouldn't give a floating point
number, but produces NULL instead?

many thanks,

Ciao Salvatore,
ho installato qgis-dev (3.15.0-15) rev. 0912bc5d82 tramite OSGeo4W network
selezionate automaticamente.

Dall'OSGeo4W Shell ho eseguito

(ma prima ho dovuto modificarlo aggiungendo "call gdal-dev-py3-env.bat" dopo
"call py3_env.bat", altrimenti altrimenti generava alcuni errori relativi

I too am boggled by this. EPSG:2274 is a Lambert Conformal Conic

So I'd say the bug is qgis/proj allowing transforms to/from a

to have a much more significant impact on large scale calculations vs
the cartesian/ellipsoidal choice.

Hope that helps!

Re: [Qgis-user] Do you have any QGIS plugin feature requests?

2020-07-13 Per discussione Nicolas Cadieux
Hi,

I have not used the latlontools but there is a need to find the correct z
factor to make a hill shade for a particular long lat. The z factor is the
ratio needed when, for example, you want to make a hillshade, or other
calculation with a raster that is long lat for z and y and meters of feet in z.
I made this code a while ago in python and said I would make into a plugin.
It’s still in my todo list. Could this be something interesting for you? Does
it fit in the plugin goals? I could give you my code. It’s quite simple but
would need to be adapted to take other geoids I guess...

Re: [Qgis-user] New Apple Macintosh ARM Chipsets

2020-07-13 Per discussione Harrissou
Hi Michael,

Sorry to hear that you couldn't find your way in the docs.
Do not worry about all the markup codes, they indeed are easier to apply than
it may look, and we have tools and people ready to help fix anything. Most of
the times, following what is already used in the file you are modifying makes
you quickly learn the syntax. No worries for that.
If you found this page:
https://docs.qgis.org/testing/en/docs/documentation_guidelines/first_contribution.html#using-the-github-web-interface/
and was able to go through, then I'd say that you are ready to jump in.

Yes, we do not expose priorities, I don't know if we have features that we'd
like to prioritize; discussion on this subject did not go that far.
However, for first time contributors, there's a selection of issue reports
labeled as "easy" that can be of a good start:
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/issues?q=is%3Aissue+label%3AEasy+is%3Aopen
(we should triage the list and tag more)
They, most of the times, are fixed within a single file, or are some kind of
repeating tasks.
About your issue with the PG setting "Only look in the public schema", if it's
a default setting, I'd consider that a bug than a feature to document but we
are open to discuss whatever you feel is worth knowing in the doc, for less
user frustration. Everything is welcome.
No special background is required to contribute imho; as a QGIS user, you
probably know things that others do not and not yet documented. Not all the
matters are cartographic-centered. Also, while there still are some efforts to
do in this area, developers try to clearly detail their changes so that
updating the docs becomes easy for anyone. Some other helps one can provide,
which are important but not always mentioned:
- update screenshots (obsolete screenshot can be confusing for beginners)
- Or review the docs to fix English (not all the writers are fluent English
speakers - I'm not.)

Sorry for the length. All I want to say is that, if you want to help in
documentation, you are more than welcome. We are happy to "mentor" you on the
technical aspects while you could mentor us on the writing ones. And we provide
a more complete docs to QGIS users.

Looking forward,
Harrissou

[Qgis-user] Question on Project Properties - Ellipsoid

2020-07-13 Per discussione Randal Hale

I hope everyone is staying safe out there.

So I've had some questions regarding setting up a QGIS Project and now
I've convinced myself that I'm doing this wrong. When I get a new
project in and I start setting up QGIS generally my project will be in a
Stateplane projection - in this case EPSG:2274 (TN Stateplane NAD83).
When I set up the project I change the ellipsoid to be
"none/planimetric" (In the project properties). I don't set up the
ellipsoid to be GRS 1980 and haven't for some time. Now I'm getting a
ballpark transformation message if I move data from 2274 to 4326 (for
instance I'm moving points to a GPX Format).BUT - if I set the
Ellipsoid to be GRS 1980 (which it is for that projection) - no warning.
Which now has me thinking MAYBE I should set the ellipsoid. EXCEPT
my area measurements always come out a bit larger than expected. So I go
back to "none/planimetric".BUT - is that causing issue with
reprojecting data

Any thoughts? Thanks for any support or pointing me in a direction.

Randy

Ciao ANdrea,
scusami ma non capisco cosa hai fatto.

che significa che hai:

(ma prima ho dovuto modificarlo aggiungendo "call gdal-dev-py3-env.bat" dopo
"call py3_env.bat"

grazie

[Qgis-user] Do you have any QGIS plugin feature requests?

2020-07-13 Per discussione C Hamilton
Hi Everyone,

I find that I have extra time on my hands so I would like to know if anyone
has any feature requests for any of my plugins.

Lat Lon Tools
https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/latlontools/

Shape Tools
https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/shapetools/

KML Tools
https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/kmltools/

Lock Zoom to Tile Scale
https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/lockzoom/

My criteria for picking up a new effort would be that it benefits a large
number of QGIS users, is somewhat related to my existing plugins, minimal
to moderate development, and sounds like a fun project. I would also
consider something not related to one of the plugins if I think it would be
worthwhile and looks like it would be fun to work on.

Do you have any suggestions or requests?

Thanks,

Re: [Qgis-user] WMS source connect

2020-07-13 Per discussione Håvard Tveite
The GetCapabilities works for me, so, in theory, all you need to do is
to add it as a WMS / WMTS service (Layers-> Add Layer-> Add WMS/WMTS
Layer...) with the following URL:

https://ows.sobr.geosys.ru/200/RU/topo/rast

In the dialogue, choose a layer (or group layer), and one of the
available CRSs, for instance "WGS 1984 / UTM zone 34N". Then you should
be able to "Add" the layer.

[Qgis-user] What is a correct input or ouput for "Order by expression" algorithm ?

2020-07-13 Per discussione Yann Voté

Hi all,

I'm trying to use the "Order by expression" algorithm in a processing model.

Before this algorithm I manipulate input layers (remove and refactor
columns). After it, I export ordered layers to CSV as a final result
(then I want to diff CSV files, that's why I need ordered output).

But it seems to not work. Layers are not ordered at all. The help
message says: "Be careful, it might not work as expected with some
providers, the order might not be kept every time." But which providers
are working ?

There is also this Github issue:
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/issues/29794 which does not provide helpful
feedback.

Does anybody know what is the correct way to use the "Order by
expression" algorithm ? Or any workaround to acheive the same effect ?

Thanks.

Re: [Qgis-user] PDF Georefernces

2020-07-13 Per discussione Martin Bittens

Hello Warren,

if you have some  locations in the pdf-file with known coordinates you
can do the following (for me this procedure works fine in most of the
cases):

1.) Convert the pdf-file into *.tif or *.jpg;

2.) In QGIS open the georeferencer tool (you can find it in the raster
tab of the QGIS main window);

3.) Import the *.tif/*.jpg file  into the georeferencer tool;

4.) Add the coordinates of the known locations into the imported map by
using the "add point" button on top;

5.) Open "Settings --> Transformation Settings", complete the setting
options, and click on "OK";

6.) Click on "Start Georeferencing" (the green triangle on top);

Then you should get what you wanted...!

Regards

Martin

2020-07-13 Per discussione Luca Manganelli
Hello,

is it possible to write a macro for editing?

i.e., before adding a point to my PostGIS table, I would like that this
macro checks the attribute form values before storing it into the table

(qgis-it-traduzione-segnalazione) all'interno di qgis-it.

(qgis-it-traduzione-segnalazione) all'interno di qgis-it.
