something wrong.

Thanks for you input, but this does not work. It makes 1 multi polygon, not
multiple polygons. It asks an attribute to separate the polygons, but I have no
useful attributes that differ in the right way.

[Qgis-user] Joining polygons

2016-11-29 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Hello,
I have a shapefile with polygons that I want to join if they touch. They have
no useful property to group them. How can I do that?

My goal: group parcels within house blocks to 1 polygon. So that my layer of
parcels becomes a layer of house blocks.

Woow Tony,

great work, thanks a lot!

No concatenated labels, I can live with that. Equal Interval graduated styling
is too muc of a compromise for me. You see that the result is far less
interesting. Logaritmic styling is essential here.

I’ll have a look at it next.

thanks again

[Qgis-user] Qgis2web help needed

2016-10-17 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Hi,

All info about my issue:

I made a nice map, which’d like to publish online.
my map gives no result when trying to export with QGIS2Web.

I’m just a poor lonesome mapper, and know nothing about coding, I cannot even
define what the issue is.

more info at
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23700421/refugeemapData.zip

with this link you can find:

- A consolidated project including all data (made in QGIS 2.14 on MacOS10.11)
-some screen grabs from the Qgis2web UI with results and/or error messages

as you can see, result is far from the original.

Thanks for having a look at it.

Re: [Qgis-user] Link Point Layer (imported from csv file) and Map - QGIS 2.14.3-Essen (not self compiled) on Win 7

2016-06-13 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
If you end up in the caribbean, it is possible that your Lat and Long are
inverted (germany: 10,50, Caribbean: 50,10). I experienced this several times.
If so: invert Lat and long columns in your csv.

Re: [Qgis-user] Printed map scale question

2016-05-09 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
In the print composer, you should see the panel “layout”, if not: g too
View>panels>layout. There you can change the paper size. (eg A0 instead of A4).
gives you a larger working area.
This
hope this is what you needed.

HOLD IT!
From what I read, you misunderstood Szilard’s answer. You don’t need different
layers per class of city magnitude. Within one layer, you ca ncreate scalable
visibilty according to a property (number of inhabitants).

But why not use a simpler way: use an existing background layer (OSM or other)
that hat scalable visibility already in the layer? I personaly like "OSM Stamen
toner” for its slick black rendering

simply save the layer as a new one. “save as”. you will be asked to enter the
new CRS.

HI,

Go to properties>style>Size. klick on the formula icon and define the fiels
where the parameter is defined. Take care that in the CSV, that field is
defined as Integer, and not as “String”.

should work.

Re: [Qgis-user] Atlas: Filter Empty Pages

2016-03-21 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Use Spatial Query to select the non-empty elements.
1) Give the non-empty elements a new property (with table editor) (1 as opposed
to 0 for the empty ones)
2) Or save the selected elements as a new layer

if 1) then filter these elements in the filter option in the atlas configuration

hope it works

[Qgis-user] best way to download Large datasets from OSM

2016-01-14 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Hello,
Ive been spending the past few hours trying to find out what is the best way to
download large chunks of OSM data.

I have no understanding of Databases nor of programming, so I am limited to
predefined tools, algorithms and/or plugins.

I want t create a map of all the (navigable) rivers and canals in Europe.
I downloaded the osm.bpf of Europe (30 Gig) and when I try to start a query,
QGIS freezes.

Downloading from overpass only the rivers with Quickest plugin) , gives me
timeout error (even after increasing the timeout parameter)

any other suggesting welcome.

Re: [Qgis-user] Import lines from cvs

2016-01-08 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Thanks again for your help, Nicolas.

In my sample, if you look closer, you’ll see that I tried both formats. DMS and
decimal degrees. (see the two “LINESTRING”s headers) Both no result.
Maybe the problem is that the comma’s from the cvs conflict with the commas
from the nodes separator in WKT?
I also see that you have no East West, North ofSouth markings. So I should
convert to neg for West and South?

Thanks Nicolas,

But…
Trying to avoid python, as I am illiterate in that field (for now)

For the plugins P2one etc, in order to use that, I need separate lines for
“From” and “To” points, but I can create them. That will be my next guess,
after trying the other proposed solutions.

Re: [Qgis-user] Import lines from cvs

2016-01-07 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Thanks Nyall,

I try to understand your procedure, but…:

line3: “save as…”: Before doing that, I already need a geometry defined, a
proces you describe later i the process. I don’t get it.
line 4: "- expand out the "Geometry” group…” This is an option from the “load
csv layer”, not from “save layer as (shape)”
line 8: change field to : which field? I lost you there completely.
Sorry.

Thanks Nathan, short but good proposition. You encouraged me to finally have a look at that WKT button in the “import cvs” menu. But… No succes. Tried DMS and D,ddd format, but nothing happens. The layer imports, arrears in the layer list, property table of that layer looks fine, but no features appear on the map. Re: [Qgis-user] Exporting png or pdf from print composer does not work, empties canvas (Lyon)

2015-12-30 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
In my experience, it can be due to bad network. When rendering the pdf, QGIS
will download the needed layers again. When the connection to the servers of
online map-sources fail, result will be a blank layer or missing tiles.

Re: [Qgis-user] Projection like Google Earth?

2015-12-17 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Thanks Paolo and Alex.

Alex: I remember now that I had installed Globe plugin, but (on my mac) it
crashes. SO I threw it away.
For now, I can see no advantage inWorldwind, compared to G.E.

The link Paolo send, is very interesting. I played with it and came to a
certain level of satisfaction. I realize now that, for creating a map that you
can pan and tilt around endlessly, as you can in Google earth, one would have
to adapt the projection wit every pan/tilt of the map. Maybe some day, when I
am older and wiser, I’ll find a solution in a script/plugin.

My aim is to make a web-based map with my data in (pseudo) 3D. For now, I’ll
have to export to GoogleEarth.

Have fun!

Joris

[Qgis-user] Projection like Google Earth?

2015-12-16 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Hello,

Sometimes I am very proud that I have self-studied Qgis.
Sometimes I feel very stupid and cannot get to understand things that seem very
simple. This is one of these moments of doubt:

Is it possible to create a map like the globe in Googel earth, where the map is
an infinite that can be turned around instead of panned? is is a question of
the right projection?

Thanks for your reactions.

[Qgis-user] Print composer crash

2015-06-22 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Hello,
since recently, I cannot save a print without crashing QGIS.
I tried this both on windows7 and OX Yosemite:

Saving a map via print composer (in jpg OR in pdf!): once I click the “save”
button, the print composer goed white and stalls.
It started wit trying to save to a A0 paper format. So I reduced to smaller
paper size, but still the problem persists. I am now back to A4 format, with a
300 DPI resolution, but still, no improvement.
I can use my print model only 1 time, but for the second map, the composer
crashes. I can work again when I make a new print template.

Screen record of proces is here:
https://youtu.be/iBXwC-ebubs https://youtu.be/iBXwC-ebubs

When I close the composer and go back to main window to close and restart; I
get a crash alert on quit. Crash report is stored here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/z8vuw45o3wqxzse/crashReport.txt?dl=0

thanks for any comment or idea to solve this annoying hickup.

 Hi,

If you have a polygon layer with the desired shape, you can put it on topo of
all other layers and use the inverted polygon style.

On the other hand, you can also do that exporting the map to svg and do the
 masking in inkscape.

[Qgis-user] Spatial Query with buffer?

2015-05-06 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Hello,
I want to do a spatial query.
Which Polygones intersect with a series of points,... That is easy with the
spatial query plugin.
BUT: Which polygones intersect with a buffer of X around my points... How
can I do that without creating a new layer where I buffer my points?
My points are not static, they change often, so creating a buffer layer
would require also an update of the buffer layer. Too complicated (and
source of errors!) to my taste...

All suggestions welcome.

I know the point should land somewhere near the Kazach town of

These coordinates end up in the South of France for me.
There might be one digit missing for the Easting.

not work anymore is QGIS 2.x. Any alternatives around?

Here's a forked version of the old topocolour plugin, which does the same:

 https://github.com/nyalldawson/topocolour
 https://github.com/nyalldawson/topocolour
It's not in the QGIS plugin catalog because it comes with absolutely no
support ;) (I'm happy for someone to take over this if they're interested in
packaging it up properly and handling maintenance).

That said, it works in QGIS = 2.0 and has numerous improvements to the
 coloring algorithm.

Re: [Qgis-user] Attribute copy from point to polygon

2015-03-14 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Ahah!
our beloved Ujaval again!
bedankt, Raymond.

[Qgis-user] Fwd: Visualize Distance matrix

2015-03-09 Per discussione Joris Hintjens
Thanks Raymond, but what I need is the distance from every point in a layer to
every other point. That is what “distance matrix” gives me.
Then, I want to plot every distance line (as a seperate layer?) on the map.

 Hi Joris,

Not sure if I understand your question, but if you want to do a distance
calculation for all points in a point layer to a certain location you can use
the field calculator in the attribute table window.

 The expression should be:

 distance($geometry ,geomFromWKT( 'POINT(0 0)' ))

to calculate all distances to coordinate 0,0.

 Hope this helps you.

[Qgis-user] GRASS Newbie: empty results layers

I managed to “selectAll-copy the log (but where is that log saved?) and this

Any comment will be rewarded with a beer next time you pass in Brussels.

I have had same issues. In my case the problem was that the target layer had
styling properties. The new added elements had no style and appeared blank. My
advise; check the styling in the layer properties.

Could it be a projection problem? Look to see if both files are in the same

Every layer is in the same projection.
 Every layer is polygonal.

 Weird a lot!

To get the UTM zone, simply add 3 to your local easting, divide by 6, round
to integer and add 30. The UTM North zone EPSG code is 32600 + UTM zone, UTM
South is 32700 + UTM zone

Hello,
 Running QGIS 2.6 on OS10.10yosemite,
Every time I change something in the layer pane (move, toggle on/of, add or
detail a layer, I encounter recurrent errormessages. what is wrong?

Traceback (most recent call last):

self.layerHighlighted.editingStarted.disconnect(self.checkEditable)

Any suggestions what this might be and how to deal with this?

Hello Nicolas and Enrico,

I uninstalled the plugin and rebooted. Everything seems to work well now.
Thanks for the help.
For Enrico: I had the message since my upgrade to 2.6, but i installed all my
plugins at the same time. SO for me no way to say if the bug is in the 2.6 part
or the plugin part.

Do you mean this is a new message error that occurs after your system or qgis

Re: [Qgis-user] POint to polygon

I found a workaround:
export the layer to a csv with geocoordinates (through mmqgis plugin)
edited the csv so that the IDs are in the desired order
import the cvs as new layer and have this polygonized with the Points2one
plugin.
quite a hassle, but it works.

 Hi,

Am completely stuck with a QGIS project in Python and tried everything but
nothing seems to work. The python script does work as such BUT the canvas
never shows the map and therefor the exported maps are empty….

 What I’m trying to achieve:

 · Create a Python script that iterates through a series of ca. 2500
polygons based on attribute value, zoom to layer extend and save the canvas
for each attribute as an image file.

 · I then use the image files in other documents

The issue is that while manually I get the canvas to reload and display the
map, this doesn’t happen when running the python script. Have tried couple of
 ways:

 1. Don’t load the project each time and just change the filter

 2. Add sleep timers to give the canvas time to refresh etc.

 3. Tried different QGIS versions (2.2, 2.4 2.6 on Win 64x)

But all to no avail…. Hope somebody’s got a great idea how to solve it.

Thanks for the tip, but no improvement. On the contrary: layers do not fit

Does the corruption happen every time you save with a box open in edit?

If so could you give an example of a property box that causes it?

I've got users who are having this issue but I've been unable to recreate it.

I've just tried having the identify box open and saving while in edit mode and
that worked fine, although it did also leave behind an identical .qgs~ file.

If we can recreate it I can open a bug.

Cheers

Tom

I have this problem often.
It is due to saving a file while a property box is open (in edit mode?)
It is a bug that causes the file saves only partially. You will see that the
saved file is smaller than the original
I solve it by restoring the previous version.
ALWAYS CLOSE ALL secondary windows before saving!

[Qgis-user] GEarthView plugin bug?

2014-05-27 Per discussione Joris HINTJENS
Just installed the new version ( 1.0.5)
Get the next error message:
Parsing error rule 15885 column 35
Not well-formed invalid token.

Is this me (my data?) , or a bug in the plugin?

2014-05-14 Per discussione Joris HINTJENS
Hello,
I can't find an installer for Mac OS 10.6 (probably only available for QGIS

Any tips?
I am not able of installing all those files with exotic extensions manually.

[Qgis-user] Symbology Export

2014-03-10 Per discussione Joris HINTJENS
I use the plugin GEarthview for KML-KMZ export. It keeps the styling for
polygones and attributes

Joris

Hi List,
General curiosity question.
When using Save Vector Layer as to save a vector layer, there's an optioon:
Symbology Export

This in turn has three options:
No Symbology
Feature symbology
Symbol layer symbology

What does this do? I've tried exporting to both KML and TAB files using these
options but they don't appear to keep the symbology.

Cheers,
Jonathan

[Qgis-user] More colors in Color ramp?

2013-12-13 Per discussione Joris HINTJENS
Hi,
In QGIS2.0, I want to create a color ramp (Layer
PropertiesstyleCategoriescolor rampnew color ramp...) with more than 100
Colors. Limit is apparently 100 colors. Any work around?
I have a polygon layer with thousands of polygons and 200 properties. All of
which need a different color.

Thanks for suggestions
