[Qgis-user] Re: qgis on xubuntu 9.10 - won't start

2009-11-09 Thread Nik Go
Okay, I think I'm on to something. After QGIS managed to launch I tried
re-installing the plugins I often use.

Trying to install geoprocessing plugin v0.52 causes QGIS to crash, and
causing a Bus error message. Attempts to re-launch qgis will not work
unless the geoprocessing plugin is removed. (Removed by manually deleting
the folder ~/.qgis/plugins/geoprocessing)

Hope this helps.

 displayed on the screen.

Tried to do a backtrace but I get the following message:

/usr/bin/qgis: not in executable format: File format not recognized

Tried calling qgis from the command line and I get the following:

  Python support ENABLED :-)

And then it returns me to the $ prompt.

Anybody else experiencing anything similar? Looking for pointers here.

Re: [Qgis-user] qgis on xubuntu 9.10 - won't start

2009-11-09 Thread Nik Go
For the QGIS package: the QGIS PPA @
http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/unstable/ubuntu

For the QGIS plugins: the QGIS contributed repository @
http://pyqgis.org/repo/contributed

My earlier statement about the problem being possibly connected to
xubuntu-desktop may be inaccurate. I recall having been able to run QGIS
while using the Gnome desktop, and I may have tried to re-install the
plugins and haven't remembered to run QGIS afterwards, hence not detecting
the problem then.

Re: [Qgis-user] connect the dots

2009-11-09 Thread Richard Duivenvoorde

Is there a mean in QGIS to convert a series of points to a polyline?
I would like to create some tracklines from series of telemetry
points to summarize movement/migration paths. I hope I've overlooked
something but the commands I see tend to be dissolution rather than
 aggregation of features.

Hi Declan,

don't know a tool like that (but I'm not authorative for that...), but the
first thing I think of is the fTools-functionality of Carson Farmer (in
Vector menu of Qgis). It already does things like that. Maybe it's worth a
feature request to him?

Another option would be to write a python plugin for it? Or add it to the
plugin-wishes list if you do not want to do it yourself:
http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Vector_Support_Wishes

Richard Duivenvoorde

Re: [Qgis-user] seting up a wms server problems

2009-11-09 Thread David Fawcett
Ricardo,

This is probably a better question for the MapServer list, but I will
give it a shot:

I would suggest creating a WMS request and testing it directly in a
browser. In your example URL[2], you are making a mode=map request,
not a WMS request. If you get this to work, you know that you have a
working WMS server.

I am wondering if the issue with the WMS request not working is due to
the spatial reference system used by your QGIS project.

David.

I've been trying to set up a wms server on my laptop for testing
purposes but I can't seem to make it work.
I'm using mapserver, having installed version 5.4.2 as supplied by the
ubuntugis-unstable repository for ubuntu 9.10, which is my operating
 system.
I created the mapfile[1], tested the GetCapabilities request through a
web browser (it came out without any warnings) and I can see my map
through shp2img and also through a web browser[2]. However, I cannot
see it through Qgis. I am defining my wms server with the following
 connection string:

 http://pig/cgi-bin/mapserv?map=/home/ricardo/Public/public_html/pig/mapfiles/teste.map

('pig' is just the name I gave to my apache virtual host, so that is
why it is there, instead of 'localhost')

I can connect to the server and see the available layers, but when I
select one layer to be loaded Qgis acts like it loaded the layer but I
get only a blank image that is not even showing up in the place that
 it was supposed to.

Maybe this question would be better suited for the mapserver
mailing-list but I can see the map through a browser, so I am guessing
that my mistake is in the definition of the wms server inside Qgis...

Please note that I can use the default wms servers that come with Qgis
(the JPL, Lizardtech and DMSolutions) without any problem.

As a side note, I tried the same thing with Kosmo and the result was
the same. I can see the available layers but when I load a layer the
result is just a blank image. Through Kosmo I can even see the legend
of the map, which appears fine, showing my 2 classes and their color..

 Thanks for helping me out

I have the WMS working fine now! Micha's tip of adding an EXTENT field
at the LAYER level solved it. Thanks a lot!
