[Qgis-user] Almost complete italian translation of qgis 1.4 manual

2010-10-01 Thread Otto Dassau
Dear italian speaking QGIS users,

there is a new italian translation of the QGIS 1.4 user guide online. The
manual is not complete, because the group will now concentrate on the
translation of the QGIS 1.5 manual.

You find the manual here:
http://www.qgis.org/en/documentation/manuals.html

Thanks a lot to everybody who contributed to this translation! If you are
interested to help the italian translation group, please write to the
qgis-community-team mailing list.

Regards,
 Otto

Additionally, a program called SimpleDEMViewer is available on OS X:

For using gdaldem from the Terminal.app, here are some sample commands that I

 gdaldem hillshade gtopo30.tif -z 10 temp.tif

 gdal_translate -co compress=lzw temp2.tif western_colorshade.tif

did you tried to use the GRASS plugin in QGIS? GRASS has a plenty of
raster analysis tools.

2010-10-01 Thread Giovanni Manghi
in the meantime i have found DEM relief shader
which does the trick for me
it just covers the hillshading feature
but leaves out (slope, aspect, [1] ...)

you can calculate slope and aspect (and ruggedness and total
curvature) with the Raster Terrain Modelling Plugin (it's a core
plugin, installed by default). Alternatively, as already said, you can
use GRASS inside QGIS.

2010-10-01 Thread Giovanni Manghi

One wish I have is to make Easy Print work with the Openlayers plugin.
When I use it, the Google basemap either disappears or the vectors
are plotted in the wrong place. The same thing happens when I use the
 Print Composer.

Hi,

the openlayers plugin is know to not work yet correctly in the print
composer, so it will not work also in the easy print plugin.

think we should add it now, I'll discuss it with Volker.

[Qgis-user] QGIS 1.5 - Ability to set WMS provider version?

2010-10-01 Thread David Fawcett
I have successfully used QGIS to consume WMS v 1.1 services in the
past, but I can't seem to get them to work with QGIS 1.5.0 (WinXP via
OSGEO4W built against 13923M). The server is advertising only WMS
version 1.1 in the getCapabilities doc, but QGIS is using OGC Web Map
Service version 1.3 data provider.

I can't find anywhere to manually set the correct WMS data provider.
Any sugggestions?

That's just a static string from QGIS' only WMS provider. Which problems
are you actually seeing? And is that WMS public so other could try to
reproduce?

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.5 - Ability to set WMS provider version?

2010-10-01 Thread David Fawcett
Jurgen,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I just figured it out. It wasn't a problem with the WMS version. The
layer was being added, but I wasn't seeing any imagery. I think that
the problem was that when I was in the dialog where you choose the
layer from a connected WMS, I didn't select the radio button for JPEG.

This WMS only advertises/supports one imagetype, 'image/jpeg'. Even
though there is only one Image Encoding option, the ratio button was
not selected by default. I had added a WMS layer that was of type
image/png and the radio button was automatically selected by default.

So, user error.

Thanks again,

David.

[Qgis-user] Error creating a new Postgres layer - Enterprisedb

2010-10-01 Thread Terry Schmitt
Hi All,

New to the list and QGIS. Looks like a really cool project.

I am receiving an error when creating a PostGIS layer.

Accessible tables could not be determined

Database connection was successful, but the accessible tables could
not be determined.
The error message from that database was:
ERROR: schema utl_smtp does not exist.

I am using EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus Advanced Server 8.4 with Oracle
compatibility. It's essentially Postgres under the hood and pretty
much any Postgres tool can utilize the advanced server. I'm using
PostGIS 1.5.1-3.
I'm logged in as a superuser.

It doesn't matter what options I select in the Create a New PostGIS
connection dialog. It always throws the same error.
utl_smtp happens to be a oracle compatibility Package. In reality
it's a schema containing a bunch of functions plus a little extra
magic written by EnterpriseDB. There are quite a few of these schemas.
I thought that selecting Only look in the geometry_columns table
option would work, but it still errors out.
I'm pretty confident that QGIS could be made to work with EnterpriseDB
or maybe I'm missing something silly?
Anyone ever run across this before?

Thanks,
Terry Schmitt

(I sent this on Sep 27, but did not see it hit the list, so am resending)

Hi Anita,

Very good point. Probably you can have 2 versions with data and
without data. I suggest that probably you can put a link, a button to
get the sample data in one of the plugin widgets. These are all
suggestions to improve usabilities of the qgis plugins in general.

Some of QGIS plugins are hard to figure out if you don't have a
properly data to work on. And most of the users, have no real use of
the plugin at the time the plugin is announced and just like to see
how it works.

I hope if it will be in python plugin repository soon. I just like to try it.
