[Qgis-user] QGIS 1.7, advanced symbology and Openstreetmap data

2011-05-19 Thread Mayeul Kauffmann
Hi,
Among the many features of the coming QGIS 1.7.0 are advanced symbology
options (multi-scale and filter-based rules, symbol levels, etc.)
A video on how to use QGIS with complex OpenStreetMap data is now
available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBBYtH2svw0

Other rendering examples:
http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Using_OpenStreetMap_data

Technical details:
http://www.qgis.org/wiki/OpenStreetMap_data_rendered_with_QGIS

Hope this helps,

Mayeul

Re: [Qgis-user] 1-band raster plugin and grass r.colors

2011-05-19 Thread Benoit

Hi Maning,

Short answer: No.

I've only included a few default rules from Grass.

Note that 1-band raster colour plugin is based on colour palette
files (one file per palette), and, AFAIK, Grass colour palette is rule
based (this means the colour palette is created on the go, when the user
needs it).

Also note that you can add your own palettes, see [1] for explanations
on how to do it.
If you do so, could you please email me the palette so that I can add
it to the plugin distro.

HTH,
Benoit

Hi S.,
you have to toggle on the editing mode on the layer you want.
Then just use the tools on digitize toolbar to select the feature.
Once you've selected it, the vertexes will appear (red squares).
Drag a vertex to move it or press the delete keyboard key to cancel it.

[Qgis-user] WMS service problems

2011-05-19 Thread Mike Leahy
Hello List,

Thanks to a recent post on slashgeo.org, I learned of some interesting data
made accessible for the City of Toronto. In particular, they list several WMS
services inclucing Ortho Imagery. You'll find them at the bottom of the list
of the data catalogue (click the Get Data link at http://www.toronto.ca/open
). I have been trying to load these data in Quantum GIS without any
success...although I can get most non-imagery layers to load in ArcGIS. I'd be
wondering if anyone on this list is able to give the services a try, and if
successful, perhaps explain what steps or settings I'm missing.

When I add the layers in Quantum GIS, I just get the layer listed in the
legend, but no data in the map - it also seems that Quantum GIS is unable to
detect the layer's extents. I tried downloading one of the shapefiles from the
toronto.ca data catalogue, and used that as a reference to make sure the map is
zoomed to the correct location and still no luck. I contacted the address
listed in relation to the data in the catalogue, and in the reply I received,
there is mention of setting an option to Override WMS GetMap Pixel Limits to
1024x1024, but this relates specifically to options within MapInfo. Is there
something similar that would need to be done in Quantum GIS?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

[Qgis-user] WktRaster Plugin 0.4.0

2011-05-19 Thread Maurício de Paulo
Hello,
I'd be glad if some of you could take some time testing wktraster plugin
0.4.
This version starts requiring gdal 1.8 (because gdal changed the connection
parameters).
I've done some preliminary tests with gdal 1.8, ubuntu 11.04 and postgis
2.0SVN.
I was able to load a landsat image and view it with a reasonable speed. It
would probably be faster with overviews (yet to be tested).
Thanks Jorge and the Postgis Raster Team for the upgrades that now make it
possible to make new experiments.
Best regards,

Yes, That sounds accurate enough.

I have also found that changing only transparency will cause QGIS to crash
also.

Essentially I am finding that at some point, when I go to change a Layers
symbol, (line weight, colour, polygon fill, point symbol) QGIS will crash.
Sometimes it is on the first try, sometimes it takes 4-5 tries.

While I have found various work-a-rounds that reduce the chances of QGIS
crashing on a symbology change for a layer, I have not found any specific
way to make it reliable, eventually QGIS crashes.

I just tested on 1.8.0-Trunk (c7aed57)
Simply opening Layer Properties/Style (tab) and clicking Cancel/OK/Apply
will crash QGIS now.
