Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS farm application
Hi, Must say this sounds very intresting! I like youre idea! I have som experience of using PostGIS to QGIS and must say I'm impressed (comming from an ESRI environment). I don't hav any experience in SpatialLite, but maybye this is the way to go for an easier start. For PostGIS there are some really useful plugins for QGIS wich helps in managing the database (maybye there are similar plugins for Spatial Lite?) The one I use the most is called PostGIS manager. Here you can upload dbf tables to your database. I guess you can easaly export from OpenOffice to dbf? Good luck! [Qgis-user] Plugin to add a layer for each unique value in a column
I would like to add a layer for each unique value of a text column in a table. For example, if I have a column called type, and the values in it were tree, stone and plant I would like to add a layer for each type. So in this example I would have 3 layers. I know there is a plugin called Shapefile Splitter that splits out to a shapefile for each unique value, but I just want it to split to layers in QGIS. [Qgis-user] Spatialite data portability
Following the consensus opinion of all those who kindly answered my inquiry (Re: QGIS Farm Application), i have installed Spatialite and managed to export all the data from a layer to a .SQLITE file, and then view it from several different SQLite browsers, which confirms integrity of data database structure. This already is a constructive step forward (thanks to all those who helped, too numerous already to mention :). Moreover, i have managed to create a database in LibreOffice based upon that .sqlite file (after (re)learning more than i really wanted to know about ODBC drivers!), which displays all the data as it should. This is another good step forward, because -tho the business of my farm is predicated on geo-located resources (e.g. a paddock on the ground) having certain attributes that are best defined in QGIS (e.g. perimeter, area, etc.)- i will still be working with that data in spreadsheets on a much more dynamic basis. However: When i try to edit those .sqlite files from QGIS in another tool, i'm running into an error message that varies slightly, depending on the editor i use (anything but OO at this point: ODBC is too much pain, until i get these other mechanics worked out), but the message is essentially this (from SQLiteStudio): Error while updating cell value; no such function: RTreeAlign. Presuming that what i am trying to do is in fact possible*; then i am left scratching my head as to why all these SQL tools are having this trouble, and where that problematic function is coming from. Does that error message suggest anything to you? * (Of course, if what i am trying to do with such round-trip editing is in fact not possible, i would sure appreciate if someone could let me know :) /wl ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

RE: [Qgis-user] Plugin to add a layer for each unique value in acolumn
Hi Nathan/Andreas, I would happily use another method to deal with this but I haven’t managed to come up with one. My layer has site boundaries (20 of them) on it. I also have a layer with buffers for my sites in it. I have a buffer per site (20 sites) and these are from a PostGIS view as these alter whenever I change the site boundary. I would like to then add each site boundary and each buffer onto a map as a separate layer because: 1) I add the site boundary and the buffer to a group, then the users can then turn each one on and off as needed when looking at the project file in QGIS. 2) For map production (using composers) I have a composer per site. I lock the layers in the composer map item and then jpg all my maps at the end. To do this I need to have each buffer on a separate layer as otherwise it would show the other sites as they are quite close together. The only way I can think to do this at the moment is to add each layer 20 times, and then query it by each individual site. RE: [Qgis-user] Plugin to add a layer for each unique value in acolumn
Ok - so it seems like a reporting / map production problem. I am not sure if the EasyPrint or Atlas Plugin can help. EasyPrint allows to print each feature on a separate map. But it sounds like for your problem easy print would have to be extended to allow for maps per filter or using a group attribute. I am not sure if there is an out of the box solution for your problem with QGIS. For my own similar projects I set up a printing process using Apache FOP with XSL-FO and then use QGIS-server to print the map extents. I understand that this would be overkill/too much work to setup for you. RE: [Qgis-user] Plugin to add a layer for each unique value in acolumn
I may have a look at seeing if I can use the shapefile splitter plugin and change it so it adds the layers as queries to the QGIS map canvas rather than saving out shapefiles. How would you add a selection of an existing layer as a new layer to the map using python(without saving the selection to a file and then adding that files to the map)? The spatial query plugin seems to do this but I cannot find the code to see how it does it. [Qgis-user] Combined Layer Opacity
Hi, I will try and explain my query as simplistically as possible. Basically, I have some landscape data split into 5 aspects (e.g. cultural heritage, visual and sensory etc) with each aspect being shown as a separate layer. Within each aspect/layer there are areas (of differing sizes) that have been scored based on set criteria. What I am hoping to show is a map with all five aspects/layers which overlay one another and in effect add the scores so that areas of high combined scores are darker and lower scores lighter. Using a graduated styling (of scores calculated) with a 50% transparency seemed to work but when I changed the Layer order the colouring/opacity kept changing. I think the following explains what I'm trying to achieve...http://www.georeference.org/doc/layer_opacity.htm (see paragraph headed 'Combined Layer Opacity'). A friend recommends using the MCE Lite plugin as he believes I am trying to carry out a multi-criteria analysis or the raster calculator to basically add different raster to each other to come up with a score to reflect all of the combined aspects. Any suggestions welcomed. Would appreciate a step by step guide on any suggestions. Many thanks. Re: [Qgis-user] trouble with projections
Kirk, I am by no means an expert, so take any advice I give with a grain of salt. First, you need to determine if QGIS is setting the right CRS. If it's not, setting the appropriate CRS may help you. I was having issues getting QGIS to project Michigan georef correctly. Apparently QGIS is unable to recognize a specific projection type of which Michigan Georef is. I was given a work-around (props to Howard Yamaguchi) which involves loading the file into uDIG (another open-source software) and performing a reprojection in the CRS I need. Therefore, it might be useful to import your shapefiles in uDIG. If they project correctly there, you could perform the operation (with the correct EPSG you want) that can be found here: http://www.townshipgis.com/resources/problems-and-workarounds/converting-michigan-georef-to-state-plane-using-open-source-tools Perhaps someone with a higher degree of familiarity can offer a more elegant solution. -- all the best, Lee Mueller ISA Certified Arborist Registered Forester #46043 On Thu, Mar 15, 2012 at 1:58 PM, Kirk Wythers kirk.wyth...@gmail.comwrote: On Mar 15, 2012, at 12:14 PM, Lee wrote: Do you know what EPSG these files are supposed to be in as obtained? I have two layers with display properly relative to each other, however, I am dubious that the crs is correct, since they are lat long yet the scale bar is displaying meters. I have another shape file, that when read into qgis, does not display properly at all. I have tried turning off on the fly projections, loading one layer, then turning on on the fly for the other layers. I have also tried manually setting the project crs with to one of the layers. I have also tried manually setting the crs of each layer to EPSG 3174 (Great Lakes Albers). None of these approaches seems to have any effect on the problem. Ideally I would like all files to be EPSG 3174 with units of degrees as Lat Long. Any suggestions on how I should be approaching this? Thanks in advance.
