[Qgis-user] [QGIS] Problems creating a line in QGIS

2014-07-28 Thread Nicole Stoffels
Dear QGIS-Users,

I want to create a line in QGIS characterizing a street. I have a
georeferenced GoogleEarth map as background.

At first I create a new shape file (line, decimal numbers). It occurs in
my layer list and I click 'Toggle Editing' and 'Create a new object'.
Recently I could start to create my new line by clicking along the
street. Now it's impossible. My mouse does not align with the pink
cross. When I click the first time, the point of my line appears where
the pink cross is and not where I click with the mouse. The position of
the pink cross is completely random.

Did anyone ever have this problem and knows a solution? Is something
wrong with my settings?

Thank you very much for your help!

Best regards,
Nicole

[Qgis-user] WMS servers, spain

2014-07-28 Thread José G Moya Y .
Hi!
I understand mantaining the right WMS list is a pain, specially in
countries like Spain where WMSs are very decentralized and also change its
domain each few years.

The right WMS server for IDERIOJA Gobierno de La Rioja OGC WMS is:
http://ogc.larioja.org/wms/request.php?

Instead of:
http://wms.larioja.org/request.asp?

(I haven't tried the many, village-scope sub WMSs for La Rioja, but I guess
they use ocg. instead of wms. as its last domain component)

The main WMS aereal photo for spain is not listed, it is:
http://www.idee.es/wms/PNOA/PNOA?

Yours,

José Moya.

Hi Nicole,

Have you got snapping set on some layers? Could your pointer be snapping to
some features on another layer?

What version of QGIS are you using?

Hi Dominik.
This is interesting. I think it would be relatively easy to create a
plugin for this, preferably as a Processing subplugin. It might even
be possible to create a simple Processing module instead, as most or
all the necessary machinery is already available as single Processing
commmands.
All the best.

Did you try the High compression (In this case it's Deflate) option in
the Save As dialog?
http://linfiniti.com/2011/05/gdal-efficiency-of-various-compression-algorithms/

If that still isn't enough use GDAL Translate found on the Raster menu
under Conversion. There you will be able to set all the possible options.

FYI, if you want LZW specifically you need to pick one of the
compression options, like low, and then edit the Value from Packbits to LZW.

Thanks,

[Qgis-user] QGIS startup error (symbol lookup error, undefined symbol)

Hello everyone,

I'm using QGIS 2.4.0 on Linux Mint 16 MATE 64-bit. Few days ago, I did a
normal system update via apt-get update apt-get upgrade followed by
apt-get autoclean autoremove. But then suddenly my QGIS stopped working.
This is the error message I got

/usr/bin/qgis.bin: symbol lookup error:

I tried to uninstall (apt-get purge) reinstall QGIS but still got the
same error message

Anybody knows how to fix this? Thank you very much!

Probably some of your qt4 packages (qt4-python, qscintilla, sip...), or
library is more up to date, then is suitable for qgis correct work. I
had similar problems on arch linux and downgrade of some packages helps
me.

Identify is greyed until a layer isn't selected. It means the mode cannot
be set inside the pane (because identify isn't available) if a group is
selected instead of a layer in the TOC. If you confirm this I consider it a
bug.

I just created a group of line- based vector layers and the Identify tool

Identify is greyed until a layer isn't selected. It means the mode

 Hi,

In the qgis 2.2 in option-map tools there was the option to set
the mode of identify (current/topdown stop first/layer selection)

In the qgis 2.4 this setting in not available in the same place.

Is it move to another position ?

 Thx.

 HI Stefan and others,

Thanks for your thoughts and feedback! It would definitely be great to
have a subsite on QGIS.org, dedicated to tutorials and such (you meant
separate from the Documentation page, right? Or am i misunderstanding?).

I'm sure there's a lot of duplicate work going on to develop materials for
courses/trainings around the world, so it would be great to work on this in
a collaborative context, where we might make datasets available, relevant
to specific fields of study and regions.

I'm new to working on collaborative projects like this [though I've
gratefully used products of them for years now...], and would definitely
like to contribute work I've done to the larger community. For now is the
best thing to make the materials available as I have, and let folks know
about them so they can be linked appropriately by administrators? Or is it
best to work on existing training materials through GitHub? [Sorry if this
is a really basic question - I didn't really find any answers on the
QGIS.org Get Involved page, and am not sure where to get such
 information].

Also, Stefan - those materials you've posted look great! The All-in-one
Project Plugin looks like it will come in handy, especially for workshops
where you may need to have users at a set starting point, with data
 imported and such.

 Best,
 Mike

 Hi Michael

= Maybe it's time now to launch such a subsite (in english and/or for
 each language)?
(perhaps somebody of the qgis.org admins can help?)

Let me also mention, that we're using also a QGIS Portable for

an All-in-one Project. The latter is similar to ArcGIS Layer and

Ogg: [Qgis-user] QGIS 2.4 Basic Tutorial

  Hi All,

I developed a tutorial for a 1/2 day workshop that I conducted at my
university, and want to make the materials public. I've got them all in
 a
GitHub repository for now, with the main document available as .pdf,
 .doc,
and .md files (the .md needs some work for final formatting before
conversion to HTML or something). I've also posted the data files that
 i
used in a .zip folder (I've checked with the providers and confirmed
 that is
  okay).

  The repository is here: https://github.com/mtreg/QGIS-Tutorial

I'd be happy to have comments or edits, and any assistance improving
 text as
is necessary. I know the md file is probably best for managing and
 updating
into the future, but would need the most help with that, as I'm new to
 using
  markdown.

I hope it is useful to at least some folks - I know similar tutorials
 exist,
at least up through earlier versions of QGIS 2.x, but wanted to make my
 own
that is relevant to data in my field.

If there is another place these materials should be posted, please let
 me
  now.

  Cheers,
  Mike
