Now it is. qgis-rel-dev (the nightly build of the release branch in OSGeo4W)
will have it tomorrow and it'll be in 2.8.2.

2.8.2 will be released when there are two weeks without a new commit. But
that's apparently too long - there still is a more or less continuous stream of
fixes. So there weren't any new point releases yet, although there are a
bunch of fixes. So we might need to pick a shorter period that still leaves
the opportunity to test the changes in nightly builds before it actually is
released.

Is 2.8 now the official QGIS stable Version?

Yes.

We still have 2.6 on production. Is it safe to upgrade?

It's supposed to be safe. But what's safe in life?

Re: [Qgis-user] Oracle connection Timeout

2015-03-18 Thread Heather Hillers
This morning we tested the patch
[1] https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/commit/db23632

using qgis-dev nightly build 2.9.0-24.

We installed locally on Windows and tested with Wireshark. On loading a
Project where Oracle layers were stored without a username and Password,

1. A first Connection stream ConnA was built (sig, ack) and recieved a Login
error.
2. ConnA was cleanly ended (Fin) and did not recieve a RST from the Oracle
Server.
3. A second Connection stream ConnB was built (sig, ack) with the
QgsCredentials given username and Password (sig, ack) and was cleanly closed
when the Project was loaded.

A tail of Oracle logs showed no Errors.

We tried restarting QGIS, reloading the Project, loading a bigger Project,
and adding and removing layers. Everything was squeaky clean.
We connected to a Oracle 11 and to an Oracle 12 and to an Oracle 12 on an
ODA without Problems.

So, this patch is great. Brilliant!

The next question is, how can I deploy it to my productive System? Since
this is a System error that causes a lot of trouble, it's really important
to get it fixed.

Will it be added to / is it already added to 2.8? Is 2.8 now the official
QGIS stable Version? We still have 2.6 on production. Is it safe to
upgrade?

Thank you so much,

Heather

Create a python plugin that registers a custom widget like the one in

Following your tips I created a plugin that registers a tree widget.
And following the tutorial that you linked I was able to add a
parameter to set the layer that the treewidget should use as a model
 (sort of) for data.

There's only one glitch. I expected that that parameter would be saved
when saving the project and loaded when opening it. But that is not
 the case.

 class TreeWidgetWrapperFactory( QgsEditorWidgetFactory ):
 ...
def readConfig( self, elem, layer, idx ):
Read a config object from an XML element
 pdb.set_trace()

 config = dict()
 config['MyTreeWidget'] = elem.attribute( 'MyTreeWidget' )
 return config

The readConfig function never runs. I don't understand what could be
wrong because I copied and pasted the tutorial code for that class and
changed only the name of the parameter where to save the configuration
 (MyTreeWidget instead of rule.)

I tested and it is not your fault.
It's about the python bindings that seem not to support certain C++
constructs (in particular private virtual methods).

I have just pushed a fix to master, so if you are working with that your
code should run fine now (or with the next nightly).

This can also be backported to 2.8.2.

I would appreciate a short feedback if it also workd for you.

2015-03-18 Thread Stéphane Henriod
Hi

We have been using the FZ-G1 in the field with Win 8 and we were pretty
happy with it (not with Qgis though).

The only down we have identified until now is that the port on which the
GPS is running (COM3 if I remember correctly) sometimes switches off
without any reason... Given that the people who use it in the field are not
always super techy, it can be an issue to switch the port on again...

But we haven't been able to identify in which situation this bug (or
whatever that is) happens.

Hope that helps

Just keep your option open about the GPS. The market for cheap GPS'es is

The GPS I'm using and recommending right now is a HOLUX M215+ (Remember

around 20 satellites (under a clear sky), has a PDOP under 1.0 and is very
 stable

If you need centimeter or decimeter precision, you're probably better of
by buying a dedicated professional GNNS reciever in quite another
 price-range

[Qgis-user] Help about MetaSearch - HTTP 404 error

2015-03-18 Thread Emmanuel Blondel

Dear all,

I'm currently testing the MetaSearch QGIS plugin to query some CSW
endpoint. I've successfully used the package with some examples provided
in the documentation.

Unfortunately, in our service we face issues to query our corporate FAO
Geonetwork http://www.fao.org/geonetwork/srv/en/csw? where we publish
our records. Service information / GetCapabilities is retrieved
properly, but we can't search for records, we get a HTTP 404 error (not
found), in spite the FAO Geonetwork is up and running.

Would you have any advice how to solve this? could it be a problem of
HTTP User-agent and restriction on FAO Geonetwork server admin side?
other idea?

Many thanks in advance for your help

Re: [Qgis-user] 3D analyst

2015-03-18 Thread Nicolas Cadieux
Hi,
Not sure what you are trying to do.

-If you are looking to extract contour lines from a DEM, use
(Raster/Extract/contour) or Processing/Grass r.contour.step (with more
options.)

-If you want to extract a terrain profile from a DEM, use Profile tool
plugin.
-If you want to extract a terrain profile from a vector file (containing
contour line), I believe the VoGis-ProfilTool Plugin, will do that (but
never used it). If that does not work, make a DEM with these contour
lines using the Interpolation Plugin then use the Profile tool plugin.

To install plugins: Plugins/Manage and install plugins/All or not installed.
Good luck
Nicolas

I can load layers into PostGIS using the DB Manager plugin, and I can use
the SQL window to execute a spatial query intersecting two tables. But,
when I check the box to load the query result as a layer, fill out the
controls, and hit Load Now!, the layer isn't added.

I get the little black and white 'thinking beachball', but nothing else
 happens.

Can anyone else confirm this? If so, I can file an issue.

 David.

Re: [Qgis-user] DB Manager in QGIS 2.8

2015-03-18 Thread David Fawcett
Thanks for the response Alexandre.

Here is the query:

SELECT fires.id, fires.inci_no, fires.descript, fires.geom
FROM lab.mpls_fires_2014 fires
INNER JOIN lab.mpls_lakes lakes
  ON ST_DWITHIN(fires.geom, lakes.geom, 1000)

When I add ST_GEOMETRYTYPE(fires.geom) to the query, the value is
St_MultiPoint for all records.

Can you please show your sql query?

Notice that if your query result in different geometries, qgis won't be
able to choose a geometry type for the layer. I advice you to Check your
 results with St_GeometryType().

[Qgis-user] Using data defined attributes to colour a shapefile gives an all black legend

2015-03-18 Thread Damien Stephens
HI guys.
I have stored the colour information for polygons in three columns in a
shapefile (Red,Green and Blue).
I then used the data defined attributes in the symbol dialogue box to set the
colours:
[cid:image001.png@01D06239.F3FC98E0]

This works a charm except that my legend for the layer now has all of the
colours as black, which kind of defeats the purpose of colourising the map in
the first place.

Any ideas for a workaround to get the actual colours into the legend?
I am sure it is something simple that I am missing.
Thanks
Damien

[Qgis-user] Trouble trying to produce large graphic jpg from stand alone QGIS 2.8.1-Composer on Windows 7-32 bit

2015-03-18 Thread Tom Lennon
The graphic is 656 MB (16200 x 13500 @ 300 dots per inch) and would measure
1372 x 1143 mm. It is a wall map. Composer warns it may cause memory
overflow and when I proceed it says to either change paper size or
resolution and no file is generated. I have checked available memory and it
is 1.82 GB before attempting the export. Windows 7-32 is limited to 3.5 GB
physical RAM so I tried increasing virtual RAM to 12 GB. That had no
effect. Also tried to output as PDF, which gave no warnings and produced an
empty file. Is there some way to instruct QGIS to use the virtual RAM? Or
is there a way to have the output file made in bands like Post Script does?
Thanks
