[Qgis-user] Project QGIS Web Client II (QWCII)

2015-12-08 Thread Andreas Neumann

Hi QGIS users,

As you may have noticed, QGIS web client shows its age (old OpenLayers,
old ExtJS, not so modular code). For this reason it will only receive
some minor updates in the future - and the process has started to find a
successor project, called "QWC II".

QWC II should be easier to deploy than QWC I, more modular, with more
modern libraries (OpenLayers3, some better UI framework). The same
version should work on Desktop and mobile. There should be a QGIS plugin
to edit the global and per project options. We started work on a
requirements document - see
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QHF7c3Z1yv-Y86fiAAb2I02fP6BysQXO5nd4y-qaR8A/edit?usp=sharing

At this time we are looking for project partners (institutional crowd
funders) who help invest into this effort. The current partners are:
City of Uster, City of Jena, City of Kristianstad, City of Strasbourg,
Kanton Glarus and 2-3 likely additional partners.

The plan is to start a bidding process to do the development of QWC II,
starting with Priorities 1 (P1). This bidding project probably starts in
January 2016. The source code will end up in the official QGIS Github
repository and will be open to additional developers once the project
reaches a certain state.

Please let us know, if you are interested in joining this effort.

[Qgis-user] unable to stylize vector layer with recent QGIS versions on OSX 10.8.5

2015-12-08 Thread Marcel Stadelmann
Hello

On OSX 10.8.5 it isn't possible to stylise vector layers with recent QGIS
versions (2.10 and 2.12.1) anymore. For example it isn't possible to change the
frame color of a point symbol. When I click on simple marker, it appears just a
text: This Layer has no changeable characteristics. It last worked correct with
QGIS 2.8.4.

The bug was reported under http://hub.qgis.org/issues/13338, but i can't update
the bug report, because i lost my password.

Probably this issue exists just on OSX 10.8.5. I tested the newer QGIS versions
on two independent OSX machines, and both have this issue. Any ideas?

Thank you

[Qgis-user] Discussion on QGIS.ORG acting as a proxy organisation for bidding in conjunction with crowd funding

2015-12-08 Thread Andreas Neumann

Hi,

I just started a discussion about QGIS.ORG to act as a proxy
organization during a crowd funding campaign to do the bidding process
on behalf of a crowd funding group that wants to improve existing QGIS
features or introduce new features. Note that multiple organisations can
join the effort, define the requirements and pay their share, but
QGIS.ORG would sign contracts with companies - so that the winning
company doesn't have to sign contracts with a dozen different organisations.

I'll invite interesting users to join the discussion at
https://www.loomio.org/d/EaQrPxbd/qgis-org-to-act-as-proxy-organisation-for-crowd-funding-bidding#comment-871669

Re: [Qgis-user] how to get rid of points and only show labels?

2015-12-08 Thread McDonaldR
Hi Bob, Burghardt

You have to change the symbol style to "rule based" and then there is the
option to turn off the symbol for the point. The option is not available when
using a point styled with "single symbol"

Hi Bob,

It is much easier - you don't have to fuss around with zero size or
transparency.

Just uncheck the "Symbol" checkbox and your symbol will disappear. See attached
screenshot.

[Qgis-user] Crowd funding campaign for importing CAD files in QGIS

2015-12-08 Thread Andreas Neumann

Hi,

Local governments on the municipality of provincial level often have to
deal with DXF/DWG/DGN documents delivered from architects, urban
planners or engineering companies. As an example, cadastral or utility
offices or companies often have to import CAD documents to either check
deliveries about correctness or import selected objects into their
central database. Another requirement is being able to visualize planned
objects, such as buildings or bridges alongside with the cadastral data.

QGIS lacks proper import of CAD data so far – DXF files can only be
imported on very basic levels (without styling and labeling), DWG files
can’t be imported at all.

A requirements document

has been written to implement import of DXF/DWG (and potentially also
DGN) files into QGIS, while maintaining styling, labeling, 3D, curves
and blocks.

The company Norbit, with Jürgen Fischer, submitted an offer

Jürgen is a long-term QGIS developer and QGIS.ORG board member. Norbit
has extensive experience with bridging GIS and CAD.

The plan is to use the Teigha library

(https://www.opendesign.com/the_oda_platform/Teigha) of the OpenDesign
Alliance (ODA)
(https://www.opendesign.com/) to read the CAD documents. Either QGIS.ORG
or OSGeo would become a member of the ODA, to get access to the source
code and for distributing the Teigha libraries with QGIS binaries.

At this time we are looking for organisations or companies that help
funding the effort. The offer from Norbit is over 32k €. We are looking
for institutional crowd funders with minimum contributions of 1k Euros.
If you are interested in contributing, please contact by mail at andreas
(at) qgis (dot) org.

Thanks and greetings,
Andreas Neumann

Yeah, there is work being done on making the UI UX better at the moment so this
might get in.

The label is part of the style hence the disappearance when the symbol is
turned off. Your best bet then is to set the label style and set the symbol
style transparency to 100%. Bit clunky but will give the look you are after.

Ross,

Well that’s intuitive (NOT!). should have guessed it was something like that,
especially as a long time Mac user. :c)

Thanks. That was it, sort of, now the label goes away when I click the symbol
off . . . I’m labeling from an Attribute column.

Looking for this type of label (see the point in there, I set them back up to a
size from the previous “zero” value in order to see the setting take effect),
but the label goes bye-bye when I click the symbol off. :

Dear Andreas,
as you might know, GIS tools of GIS.lab [1][2] are based on QGIS Desktop and
Server. Until now, we had our web interface [3] also built with GeoExt and
ExtJS.

Few months ago, we have decided to start with development of new generation of
our web and mobile clients with modern technologies like OpenLayers 3, Django,
Angular, Cordova ... - license GNU GPL 3 [4]. We have decided to develop it as
separate project usable with or without GIS.lab.
In January 2016, we would have some usable versions of web and mobile
applications + QGIS plugin. Actually, our original plan was to offer it to the
community as new generation of QGIS Web Client :).

Our goals are to use GIS.lab for education and we could easily adapt our plans
according user's needs. It would be excellent if we would be able to join our
forces. I would be very happy to discuss if with you !

[Qgis-user] Issue opening Esri File Geodatabase Multi_Line Z

2015-12-08 Thread Veinot, Tyler
Windows 7 64bit Pro 6.1 Build 7601, QGIS 2.12.1, Esri Arc Desktop 10.3

Hello;
I have a file geodatabase which contains my data and out of the blue when I
open a specific polyline Z feature Q crashes. The feature opens in Arc Desktop,
I ran my check and rebuild geometry with no success. It will open when I export
it to a shape file Z enabled. It is a 2.5D feature class, 2954 PEI Double
Stereographic NAD83 CSRS98 using CGVD2013. I also cleared the CS and spatial
references and still no luck, was hoping someone out there might have run into
this before and can help me out. It also crashes QGIS 2.8 and 2.xx (an older
version a college was running not sure the version). I even tried exporting to
shape, deleting the feature class and reimporting the shape to feature class,
still no luck.
Any suggestions?
Tyler

Sounds like it's an issue with the OGR geodatabase driver. If you try to
convert it on the command line to a shapefile using OGR2OGR, do you also
see a crash?

Hi Nuno,

exifread is an external python package what you must install outside QGIS.

Hi Bob,

It is much easier - you don't have to fuss around with zero size or
transparency.

Just uncheck the "Symbol" checkbox and your symbol will disappear. See attached
screenshot.

[Qgis-user] postgis/gresql views

2015-12-08 Thread Matt Boyd
Hi QGISers.
I'm trying to work out how to display some geological data on map.
Basically
Table x;
location1 | zone1 | date1 | value1
location1 | zone1 | date2 | value2
continued with variations in location/zone etc..

spatial table
geometry Column | location1

I create a view in postgresql using the location as the common column.
However, when I try to display my data, zone2 is shown with value1 and I
can't work out how to get 2 values and 2 zones to display at a time.

All the data is there and shown correctly in the combined attributes table,
however labels don't show correctly.

Ideally I'd like to be able to create labels and views from within qgis
using functions (eg, for all zones in location1, what is the sum of the
values).

I've only been at this a couple of hours this afternoon but thought I'd
check here in case there's a simpler solution than the one I'm heading
towards.

Thanks
Matt

2015-12-08 Thread Burghardt.Scholle
Hi,

It may be that this checkbox is only available at certain renderers - I think i
tested with the rule-based renderer.

I think it is around since a couple of versions. On Windows, the symbol is more
on the left side - not centered in the symbol dialog.

Re: [Qgis-user] postgis/gresql views

2015-12-08 Thread James Keener
I guess I don't fully understand your problem. Is this a labeling issue or a
postgres issue?

Also, labels can be the output of an expression. I don't know if that's what
you mean as you're also talking about aggregate functions.

Can you more clearly define your problem?

[Qgis-user] rotating labels from attribute, how to use 0-360 (in place of -180 - 180)

2015-12-08 Thread Basques, Bob (CI-StPaul)
All,

So it looks like QGIS is expecting rotation values as -180 - 180. How do I
change this to 0 - 360? I’m exporting the numbers from a CAD (AutoCAD)
program. I may be able to tweak the output from AutoCAD to get the expected
rotation, but is there a way to change the rotation limit values in QGIS on the
fly via an expression?

Thanks

bobb
