Hi,

We spent some time with empty geometries in OpenJUMP and I attach some test
data from those experiments. Feel free to use it in the QGIS feature request.
Zip contains point, line, and polygon shapefiles, each having 8 features but
only one feature with geometry. From the WKT files you can see that there are
actually different kind of empty geometries. I even did not bother to think
about Z, M, and ZM geometries.

POINT EMPTY
MULTIPOINT EMPTY
LINESTRING EMPTY
MULTILINESTRING EMPTY
POLYGON EMPTY
MULTIPOLYGON EMPTY
GEOMETRYCOLLECTION EMPTY

One may say that empty is always just empty but one needs also to think what
happens if user copies POLYGON EMPTY and tries to paste it into a point layer.
Should copy be denied or empty geometry converted into POINT EMPTY? For
OpenJUMP that does not matter because it can handle all kind of geometries on
the same layer. However, saving POINT EMPTY into polygon shapefile may fail and
therefore OpenJUMP can convert even empty geometries like POINT EMPTY ->POLYGON
EMPTY.

Hi Andreas

Even my answer comes late…

Thanks for your reply and propositions.

I tried all 3 possibilities and the attribute(getFeature(…)) solution works
perfectly for my needs.

With “not related” I meant, that the main table and the domain table (list
lookup) only have a relation by an intermediate table. I think you understood
right :)

Hi Christoph,

Are you talking about the left column in the forms view?

What do you mean by "not related"? Do you mean related, but not contained in
the same table?

Is this for a value list lookup?

For a 1:1 relation?

QGIS expressions don't know "SELECT". The expression always works on a single
feature. It can't return records.

There could be several ways to do what you want:

1. use joins (layer properties --> joins)

2. use the attribute(getFeature()) expression

3. Create a virtual layer (starting from version 2.14) --> see
https://docs.qgis.org/testing/en/docs/user_manual/working_with_vector/virtual_layers.html

I hope that one of the above ways help you solve your problem.

Greetings,

Andreas

Hi

I have a question about the display expression for forms. The aim is to show
data of a table that is not related by QGIS.

What I would like to do is to write a SQL to my SpatiaLite database to fetch
some data. I suppose, that the display expression is restricted to the “select
column” clause like: “"pkuid" || ' ' || CASE WHEN art = 1 THEN 'this' ELSE
'that' END”. When I put a select clause in it like “CASE WHEN "art" THEN
(SELECT value FROM WI_D_Inventar_Art WHERE id = "art") ELSE 'Undefined' END” I
get an expression is invalid error (the expression works in spatialite_gui). It
seems that the SELECT keyword is not accepted.

Is there any possibility to write “free” SQL-Syntax for the display expression?

I wrote already a function that connects to the database, fetchs the data and
closes the database. It works, but it is slow.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Nicolas,
we faced the very same issue here.
A lot of improvements have been done in qgis server 2.14.2, those queries
are now not reevaluated at each tile, but only on project load.

I didn't dig too much on materialized views since we use mostly views, that
should be fast, except for estimated extent.

Reading extent from project properties and not data has been discussed on
dev list here [0] and is an acceptable solution.

If you are available for sharing costs of such a new feature, we already
wanted to have it done. Mail me in private about it.

Re: [Qgis-user] Very long sql in postgres layer definition

2016-05-26 Thread Samuel Ingarfield
Good idea, but I need to be able to vary a parameter in the sql expression
to filter the dataset differently as the user requires.
Filtering needs to happen on the sql server, the dataset is far too large
to filter directly within qgis (roughly 100mil rows).

the composition (adding map, text, scale, etc) works fine, as
always, but when I try to print or export it in any file
format the canvas disappear, no error message pops up, no
hardware runs (no lights blinking on my PC).

Page setup is custom (170 x 100 mm) and the maps reach page
border, I don't know if this could be a problem.

I had the same problem with different QGIS versione (2.12 and
2.14), so maybe it is a local problem. Any idea? I'm working
on Windows 10 64 bit, and use PDFCreator as pdf printer.

Thanks in advance,

There is an issue with deleting records in shape file as there are many ways
to do that.  If the record were deleted in another GIS, they may show up (or
not) in another software. Could that be it...
> Nicolas

Hi,

I suppose that Andrea means a valid situation with real existing features
which just do not have geometry. They are valid in shapefiles but many GIS
software have difficulties in dealing with them. Naturally they cannot be
showed on the map and spatial queries can't find them but they should be
found from attribute view and be editable there.
